What's new

What's new

New scholarships have been announced from the University of Bradford's School of Management. These are to help students progress their careers or explore a different career path by pursuing postgraduate study.

A number of the scholarships can be used for the School of Management's revised MSc programmes. The latest programme developments have updated content on:

  • Digital marketing
  • Data analytics
  • Leadership and effective HRM
  • Financial technology and blockchain
  • Global and contemporary issues in international business
  • Entrepreneurship and innovation.

The Dean of the Faculty of Management, Law and Social Sciences, Professor Zahir Irani, said, ''We know many students are held back from doing a postgraduate degree due to financial worries or time constraints. We hope that with these scholarships and our flexible courses, we can encourage more people to look into postgraduate courses as a viable next step in their career.''

Bradford offers a range of awards to students from all over the globe based on academic excellence, personal circumstances or financial hardship.

Teaching quality

Teaching quality

Teaching at the University of Bradford is informed by research that is conducted for the good of society through the main themes of advanced healthcare, innovative engineering, and sustainable societies.

It has always been a pioneer of education and in 1969, the university founded the world's first University Centre for the study of peace. It's still one of the largest of its kind across the globe today.

The university achieved silver status in the most recent Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), and 96 per cent of research was marked as world-leading, internationally excellent or internationally recognised in the Research Excellence Framework (REF).

Students are taught by experts in their field as well as industry professionals, using world-class facilities such as a motion capture studio and Bloomberg Trading Room.

Academic faculty are at the forefront of innovative work and their achievements include developing an innovative new blood test for cancer and being awarded the Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher Education for work in helping people with dementia.

Accreditation and rankings

Many courses have accreditation or professional approval. The business school has Triple Crown accreditation by EQUIS, AMBA & AACSB.

In the Complete University Guide's 2020 subject tables, Bradford is in the top ten UK universities for:

  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Optometry & ophthalmics
  • Medical technology
  • Forensic science.

It's also third in the UK for chemical engineering in the 2019 Guardian University League Table.

Department structure

Department structure

The University of Bradford was first established in 1832 as the Mechanics Institute. It received a Royal Charter in 1966 and become the UK&rsquos 40th university.

It&rsquos comprised of four academic faculties, which are primarily located at the City Campus. Each cover a large variety of disciplines:

  • Faculty of Engineering & Informatics (FoEI) &ndash home to the School of Engineering School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and School of Media, Design and Technology.
  • Faculty of Health Studies (FoHS) &ndash well known for its nursing, midwifery and allied health professions courses.
  • Faculty of Life Sciences (FoLS) &ndash home to the School of Archaeological and Forensic Sciences School of Chemistry and Biosciences School of Optometry and Vision Science and School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences
  • Faculty of Management, Law & Social Sciences (FoMLSS) &ndash home to the School of Law, the accredited School of Management, and School of Social Sciences.

Each academic programme belongs to one of the four faculties, and may incorporate tutorials, seminars, lectures, lab work and practical work. The academic year begins in September and ends in May, with some courses starting in January.

Academic requirements

Students will need to meet the subject-specific academic requirements to study at the University of Bradford.

Certificate of International Foundation Studies

For those who cannot meet the requirements for a degree course, the Certificate of International Foundation Studies programme helps students improve their academic skills so they are prepared for degree-level study.

English language requirements

International students will also need to meet the English language requirements of the university. IELTS is the university's preferred English language test, but the university has its own entry test, the BASALT. The following tests are accepted:

  • IELTS – students will need a score of at least 6.0 with no lower than 5.0 in each band, or 5.5 in each band if a Tier 4 visa is required.
  • TOEFL – students will need a score of at least 80, with no lower than 18 in reading, 17 in writing, 17 in listening and 20 in speaking if a Tier 4 visa is required.
  • Pearson PTE Academic – students will need a score of at least 55, with no lower than 46 in each band, or 51 in each band if a Tier 4 visa is required.
  • Or an accepted equivalent

Some courses may ask for higher language proficiency requirements. Students are encouraged to check individual course information.

Pre-sessional English Language courses

Those who cannot meet the required English language proficiency requirements to qualify for their chosen degree course can choose to study a pre-sessional English language course. This will help them to build their language and academic skills and get them ready to study at university level.

The University of Bradford offers a welcoming and vibrant environment where international students will find a home-away-from-home. As well as the many modern, industry-standard learning facilities to assist with studies, there is plenty to support students outside of the classroom.

Students' Union

To help students get the most out of their student experience, the University of Bradford Students' Union (UBU) has plenty of support resources, activities and events on offer year-round. All students are automatically members of UBU. It's led by elected student representatives, and international students can find confidential assistance for anything to do with their studies, finances, welfare, immigration and more.

UBU is also host to more than 100 different student-run sports clubs and societies. From street dance to politics, there is something for all students to enjoy outside of their studies, and if there's not, students can start their own club or society.

Accommodation

All first-year international students are guaranteed a place in The Green, the GBP 40 million award-winning student halls of residence. Located on campus but close to the city centre, the Green is a friendly and safe place to live. Comprised of townhouses and apartments, there are 1,026 rooms as well as high-quality, fully-equipped communal areas. It's also one of the most sustainable developments of its kind in the world.

There are also off-campus accommodation options available. Bradford is a relatively cheap location to live in compared to other university towns across the UK.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

To help students from all backgrounds who are in need of extra financial support, the University of Bradford puts more than GBP 4 million each year into scholarships. A number of these are dedicated to self-funding international students. Scholarships are based on academic excellence, personal circumstances or financial hardship. Awards include:

Country Specific Scholarships

All eligible students from a list of countries will receive a tuition fee discount of GBP 2,000 each year of the course.

Half Fee Academic Excellence Scholarship for International Students from China, Hong Kong, India, Nigeria, Pakistan

Ten eligible students from China, Hong Kong, India, Nigeria or Pakistan will receive a tuition fee discount of 50 per cent. The award is based on academic excellence and is available for undergraduate and postgraduate taught students.

International Academic Excellence Fee Scholarships

Eligible non-EU international students will be automatically considered for an award of up to GBP 3,500, depending on academic excellence.

Students are encouraged to search for what is available and check the eligibility requirements. Some scholarships are subject-specific.
