Auckland Institute of Studies is New Zealand’s most international, independent degree granting tertiary institution and one of the oldest and well established. Over 16,000 students from 50 different countries have passed through our doors since our establishment in 1990. We have empowered many students to become effective business people in the field of their choice in New Zealand and around the world. Our beautiful surroundings and the supportive environment coupled with the cultural diversity of students we have on campus make Auckland Institute of Studies a great place to study! The three semester system allows students to fast track programmes. Dedicated students can complete a diploma or degree in a shorter time than at most traditional institutions, allowing them to enter the workforce more quickly. Students may start a programme in January, May or September for semester-based qualifications. All qualifications are approved by the New Zealand Qualification Authority (NZQA).

Situated in 3.5 hectares of trees, lawns and park-like grounds, Auckland Institute of Studies two campuses are located in Mt Albert, a city suburb located a short distance from downtown Auckland. Public transport is available from the city centre at regular intervals and both train and bus stops are located close to our campuses. A shuttle bus for students runs between the Main Campus and the CBD, close to major bus, rail and harbor ferry terminals
Our multi-lingual student services team welcomes students to Auckland Institute of Studies. The team is experienced in dealing with issues faced by international students and provides ongoing support during studies. We offer students online visa services in partnership with Immigration New Zealand. International students can apply for their student visas and one-year graduate work visas on campus, with support from our Online Visa Officer.
Student accommodation is available in our 120 bed dormitory in either single, twin share or multi-share fully furnished rooms. The dormitory has a kitchen where residents may prepare their meals. Students who prefer a family-oriented environment can opt for homestay accommodation organised by the institute.
Academic life will challenge and expand students’ knowledge. Our multicultural student body makes learning more interesting as many of our courses have an international aspect. Qualifications include field trips, guest lectures, and company visits. Academic support from lecturers and tutors is complemented by Study Buddies and a Study Skills Advisor. The institute also hosts careers and employment seminars, and coordinates a Student Job Search Office.

Campus life is vibrant. For students interested in sports we have a well equipped gym and sports hall for badminton, volley ball and basketball. Cricket and tennis are played in the summer. We celebrate many multicultural festivals and events such as Diwali, Chinese New Year and Eid. Students participate annually in the world renowned ‘Round the Bays’ fun run.
Cafeteria facilities are open week days on both campuses with a range of local and international cuisine, snacks and drinks at reasonable prices. The Asquith Campus cafe is the hospitality student training cafe.
Our Library holds a wide range of books, journals, magazines, newspapers, video and electronic resources. Access to online journals, databases, specialised software and the internet is available along with separate reading and study areas. Both campuses also offer free Wi-Fi and computer facilities.
Student programme satisfaction surveys are conducted every year with the average programme satisfaction rate being about 95% of each programme cohort
Graduate Employability :
International students are permitted under the conditions of their student visa to work part-time (up to 20 hours per week) as long as this does not interfere with their studies. Those who complete a minimum two year undergraduate qualification or a one year postgraduate qualification (including our Level 7 graduate diplomas) are entitled to a one year graduate job search visa. If they find a good job related to their field of study, it is possible to apply for a two-year graduate work experience visa and/or permanent residence at the end of this first year. We have a student Job Search Centre to help students find part-time work during their studies and full-time work after their graduation.
Some qualifications include internships, live industry projects, work placements and applied studies to support the acquisition of work experience and industry networks.
