Billy Blue College of Design at Torrens University, along with META High School Esports, has announced a two-year partnership agreement which aims to enhance development and educational outcomes for its students through a unique esports tournament platform. This encompasses popular games like NBA 2K19, League of Legends, and Rocket League.
META has grown rapidly, in a duration of less than a year, to now include over 300 school-based teams across New Zealand and Australia.
The competition enables teenagers who have a passion for esports to improve their life skills as well as educational outcomes, all the while engaging with government departments, parents, and teachers.
Justin Beilby, Vice Chancellor, said that the strategic partnership links the university directly to the growing industry of esports and its expansive audience.
“It will also create strong ties to more than twenty undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including Game Art, Game Programming, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Software Engineering, UX & Web Design and Digital Media Design,” said Beilby.
