Transportation in USA - Getting Around on Local & Public Transport

Travelling from A to B with ease

There’s so many things to see and do in the United States. If you want to explore your local town, city and other parts of the country, you’ll find there are many travel options to suit your needs. Depending on where you’re going and where you’re coming from, your transport options include buses, trains and subways, taxis, planes, cars, bikes and of course, walking.

Found in most major cities, subways are an inexpensive way to get from A to B. It’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with the subway system when you first arrive in the U.S. Trains, on the other hand, are more suited to travelling throughout the U.S., however they are slightly more expensive.

You can also travel around using the extensive bus system. Many providers offer smartphone apps that allow you to keep track of when the next bus is coming.

Cycling is another great way to get around town. You’ll need to be familiar with the road rules and wear a helmet at all times and if you’re riding at night, your bike will need a front white light and rear red light.

It’s important to note that people in the U.S. drive on the right-hand side of the road. If you choose to drive, you must understand the road rules and have a valid driver’s licence. Some states also require an International Driving Permit so be sure to check the motor vehicle department of the state you plan on driving in and apply ahead of time.

The U.S. has many airports across the country which makes it easy if you prefer to fly to various destinations.
