SUNY Nassau Community College
Created in 1959 as part of the State University of New York (SUNY), Nassau first held classes in a wing of the old Nassau County Courthouse in Mineola, New York. When it opened in 1960, just 632 students took advantage of its affordable, high-quality academic programs. In 1962, it expanded to 135 acres at the former Mitchel Air Force Base and enrollment soared.
Whether student ultimate goal is a new career, a promotion, transfer to a four-year college, or getting more enjoyment out of life, the way to get there is Nassau Community College. NCC offers three different degrees plus special certificate programs. Course schedules are flexible enough to work around their busy life.
Begin with excellent programs in more than 70 fields of study students will learn from faculty who are all about making connections—in their fields and in their classrooms. Students will get experience in first-class facilities using the cutting-edge equipment and technology that they can expect to find in their career and they will have opportunities for internships, practical, and study abroad, all at a remarkable value.
The faculty at Nassau Community College holds doctorates at twice the national rate for community colleges. More have received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching than any other community college in the state.
The NCC campus practically spills over with activities and events. Involvement is a good way to develop relationships with other students and to create a sense of community for yourself and others. Participation in student groups provides opportunities for students to get to know a group of classmates and a faculty member, to pursue a particular interest, to learn more about their major, to celebrate their culture and/or religion, or just to have fun.
The Game Room, located in the College Union (Building “U”) is a spot where students can visit between classes and relax or play chess, checkers, scrabble, table tennis, video games, billiards or foosball, as well as other games. At the lounge stuents can grab a snack from the vending machine, study for their next class, read a magazine or just meet old friends and make new friends.
Located in the heart of Long Island, Nassau Community College spans 225 acres, the largest single-campus community college in New York State. It is easily accessible from the Meadowbrook Parkway, Stewart Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike. The campus is equipped with cutting-edge technology.
