UNLV is recognized for its excellence in a number of areas, with a range of study programs that have been placed highly in national and international surveys. The U.S. News & World Report's annual collection of study fields has placed 26 of UNLV's programs within the top 100 of their respective areas, with the Nuclear Engineering and Criminal Justice courses both within the top 30.

While the faculty are known for being excellent at developing students' understanding and skill sets, it is also the way that courses are set up at UNLV that helps them to fulfil their potential. Many courses include academic enrichment opportunities that allow students to travel to broaden their understanding and horizons within their field.

UNLV has an extensive range of study programs available, across 16 major academic units.

The university is home to thousands of students, including over 1,000 international students from 85 countries, and is seen as a worldwide destination where anyone can learn and develop their skills to push for a successful career. With such a diverse student body, the admission criteria are tailored to ensure that everyone has a fair chance to attend.

Undergraduate students will need to be able to demonstrate a successful high school education or equivalent, and must have maintained the equivalent of a B grade point average OR achieved a 22 on the ACT OR an 1120 on the SAT. EITHER an admissible grade point average OR test score will gain you admission! This test optional policy provides helpful options for applicants. Additionally, UNLV does not require an admission essay, letters of recommendation or a co-curricular resume - they keep the process very simple for students! Admission requirements for graduate students will vary by department.

Students will also be required to speak English, which can be verified through various accepted testing methods. Students who are not proficient but meet university admission criteria will be offered the opportunity to study through the university's ESL Bridge Program. International students will be asked to pay a USD 95 fee with their application to cover costs.

The safety of students is taken extremely seriously at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) with various measures in place and resources available to ensure that all students are protected during their time on campus.

The university has its own police force that is available to respond to emergencies as well as provide general safety support. They also offer tips and guidance on how students can stay safe when studying late at night either around their accommodation or at the library.

The university's police service has also been pivotal in ensuring students are kept safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. While measures are starting to be reduced in line with government guidelines as students return to in-person study in force, students will need to adhere to the latest restrictions and recommendations during their time at UNLV to protect everyone from infection.

Finally, there is emergency support available for students through alert systems and with educational material so that students are prepared for any events such as earthquakes that could occur.

Once students complete their study program at UNLV and graduate, they usually find employment or further education opportunities within a short amount of time. Many of the different colleges within the university report that over 80% of graduates have found work within three months of completing their studies, which doesn't account for those who choose to continue their education.

Graduates of UNLV can be found working both in the southwest U.S. and around the world. The latest statistics place graduates within 16 Nevada counties and in 50 U.S. states, as well as those who have travelled further afield - UNLV graduates are working in 77 countries of the world.

14% of UNLV graduates have gone on to gain a second degree by furthering their education, recognizing the drive and desire instilled in UNLV students to better themselves and seek the best career possible.

Overall, 94% of students from the University of Nevada Las Vegas are working or undertaking further study within a few months of graduating.
