ACE Annual Fun Run for the Environment

In December 2019, over 2,500 government officials, students, parents, environment lovers and exercise enthusiasts participated in the ACE Annual Fun Run for the Environment organised by students, teachers and staff of the Australian Centre for Education (ACE) – an initiative of IDP Education. 2,500 participants reflect the increasing level of attention people are giving to the environment, and how much they want to contribute to making their communities environmentally sustainable. Although it was the fourth year of the ACE Fun Run initiative, it was the first to be held in Battambang Province, 300 km from the capital city of Phnom Penh.

This exciting event is organised by the ACE Social Committee and student volunteers in Battambang, receiving support from the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, and the Battambang Provincial Hall.

“While the prime purpose of the event was to focus on the Environment, the money raised through the sale of entry tickets will be used to build toilets for public schools in this province and other remote areas across Cambodia to promote good hygiene and sanitation,” Sreng Mao, Country Director Sreng.

IDP partners with Melbourne City Mission to help end youth homelessness

Melbourne City Mission and IDP Education have partnered together to help raise much needed funds to help put an end to youth homelessness in Melbourne. The partnership, which has seen IDP Education fundraise for Melbourne City Missions annual “Sleep at the G” for several years, helped fund Australia’s first ever 24 hour crisis care facility in 2019, and in 2020 will assist in building a new accommodation facility in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

From hosting a virtual auction to an IDP Sleep-Out competition inviting friends and family to get involved, IDP were able to successfully raise over $13,000, which was dollar matched by the organisation, placing them at the top of the fundraising leaderboard for 2020, and tipping their overall contribution towards the Mission to over $100,000.

"For our third year running we have successfully raised funds to support such a worthy cause. It was also a great opportunity to get a bit competitive with our colleagues through the virtual auction and get our families involved in the IDP Sleep-out competition" Georgia Murphy, Head of People Experience

Strengthening community ties with the Welsh Refugee Council

In 2016, IDP UK began working with the Welsh Refugee Council to develop and offer insightful workshops for local refugees. The goal was to help refugees and asylum seekers to gain the necessary skills to achieve their career aspirations in the UK, through practical skills or formal education. By facilitating the development of skills required in job applications and university applications, our workshops enabled many participants to gain employment in the local area, benefitting themselves and their families, but also local businesses who benefit from the unique contributions and talents asylum seekers and refugees offer.

“Without IDP’s assistance, there would be many refugees who would not have reached their goal of accessing higher education and progressing along their chosen career path. IDP is a superlative example of how businesses with an abundance of experience, expertise and resources, can support some of the most vulnerable members of society. They are excellent advocates of the inclusion of refugees in higher education and the Welsh Refugee Council is proud to have them as a partner”. – Salah Mohamed, CEO and Bethan Roper, Volunteering and Partnership Officer, Welsh Refugee Council

In 2018 our UK team was shortlisted for two Wales Responsible Business Awards including the Welsh Government Responsible SME of the Year Award and the Wales & West Utilities Community Partnership Award for their work with the Welsh Refugee Council.

The Awards, identify employers from across Wales that are creating stronger links with communities and contributing to local economy and community.
