Heed the Government’s Call for Engineers – Start with undergraduate study in Loughborough University
In the recent few years, Singapore government has been calling for more to join the engineering field. It is said that engineering forms the backbone of the economy. An estimation of almost half of the economy relies on input from engineering sectors including storage, manufacturing, construction and others. As the country is moving towards the direction of being a “smart nation”, more skilled engineers are required to build the infrastructure and develop the systems in various sectors, from agriculture to transportation. Job prospects are getting brighter, making engineering graduates highly sought after in Singapore.
One of the universities in UK that is ranked particularly high for its engineering courses is Loughborough University. Loughborough University has recently been ranked 10th in the country by The Complete University Guide 2018. It has also been ranked 4th in Guardian University League Table 2017. For engineering courses specifically, it has been ranked 3rd in mechanical engineering, 2nd in materials and mineral engineering, 9th in electronic and electrical engineering, 12th in chemical engineering.
Established in 1909 as a small Technical Institute, it was awarded Royal Charter in April 1966, in recognition of the excellence achieved by the Loughborough College of Advanced Technology and its predecessor colleges. It became Loughborough University of Technology, the country’s first technological university. In 1996, it was renamed Loughborough University.
With over 17,000 students and staff from over 100 countries, the university is known for offering life-changing student experience. It was ranked 2nd in the Times Higher Education (THE) Student Experience Survey 2017. The university is not only recognised highly for its research, it aims to equip their students for every aspect of their life and career. With placement options available for all undergraduate courses, students are given support to prepare themselves to enter the real world of work. Based on research, 95% of the university’s undergraduates were in employment or further study within six months of graduation.
In addition to the notable engineering and technology courses, the university is also highly ranked for sports-related courses and achievements.
