With globalisation being a norm in the 21st century and vast majority of the population has accustomed to relocating from country to country or rural to metropolis area for work, there are more candidates entering the workforce due to the relocation which English is not their primary language.
The IELTS test plays an important part in fulfilling this gap as employers who intend to hire positions who require certain benchmark standards in English proficiency can include a minimum band score requirement for the position which the employer is hiring for.
This will assist the employer in deciding to either offer additional training to the potential candidate for the vacant position or shortlist candidates who do not meet the minimum band score requirement set by the employer.
Ideally, some industries which are recommended to implement the minimum IELTS band score requirements due to the nature of work and exposure to English language are:
Medical and Health care sectors
Hospitality and Tourism sectors (management level and above)
Accounting and Finance sectors
Engineering sectors (management level and above)
Legal and Compliance sectors
Government and Public sectors
Although currently most employers do not make it mandatory to produce an IELTS test score as part of the recruitment process, it is important as an individual to stay ahead of the labour market competition and take the initiative to develop their English proficiency / competency skills in a professional manner follow by taking the IELTS test to demonstrate their English proficiency level.
