The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) is conveniently located in the Mount Lawley Campus of Edith Cowan University. Mount Lawley is a safe and friendly area in the suburbs of Perth. Established with buzzling restaurants, bars and shopping, a vibrant campus life is expected. With many public transport options to choose from, getting from Mount Lawley to the city will not pose as a challenge.
WAAPA is a place where enthusiastic and ambitious artists gather to perfect their craft and collaborate on projects. Students also enjoy access to world-class production, teaching, performance, and rehearsal facilities. By utilising the extensive range of studios and facilities, they are given the opportunity to indulge in their creative and artistic ambitions. Additionally, WAAPA also has facilities located outside of its campus. These venues are frequently used to host performances and concerts.
With a plethora of internationally recognised courses, world-class staff and state-of-the-art teaching facilities, WAAPA is known to be one of the best performing arts schools in Australia and in the world. They are also known nationally and internationally for the quality of its graduates. WAAPA is home to many world-famous and well-known actors, musicians, dancers and musicians that appear on screens ever so frequently.
Here are some of WAAPA alumni movie stars: Hugh Jackman (aka The Wolverine), Jai Courtney (Suicide Squad & Divergent), Dacre Montgomery (Power Rangers Movie & Stranger Things), Ben O’Toole (Hacksaw Ridge), Frances O’Connor (The Conjuring).
Every year, as an acknowledgement towards dedicated and outstanding students, WAAPA presents them with scholarships and prizes. There are a variety of scholarships to encourage students from various courses; Acting, Arts Management, Dance, Music – Contemporary, Classical, Jazz, Music Theatre, and Production and Design.
