Established in 1989 as the 20th campus of the California State University system, California State University San Marcos is is known for academic excellence, service to the community and innovation in higher education. The university offers rigorous undergraduate and graduate programs distinguished by exemplary teaching, innovative curricula and the application of new technologies. It has an enrolment of more than 15,000 student and is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The university also provides full-time international student advisors and specialized academic advisors to promote on time graduation. Available support services include the writing centre, the mathematics lab, the faculty and volunteer mentoring program, disability support services, peer mentoring, tutoring, study groups and programs services and the Career Center. Cal State San Marcos is home to over 130 student organizations and its students can also enjoy a fitness center (The Clarke), including indoor and outdoor basketball and volleyball courts, running track, soccer field and a wide variety of rental sports equipment. The university is also proud to offer 150 teaching and research labs and one of the most modern libraries in the entire Cal State University System that can accommodate 840,000 volumes and seat 1,600 students.
