About Fordham University

Fordham University, the Jesuit University of New York, is committed to the discovery of Wisdom and the transmission of Learning, through research and through undergraduate, graduate and professional education of the highest quality. Guided by its Catholic and Jesuit traditions, Fordham fosters the intellectual, moral and religious development of its students and prepares them for leadership in a global society. Race, gender, culture, sexual identity, socio-economic status, religion: Fordham is committed to diversity in all dimensions. Working to understand and respect that which makes each of them unique is an essential part of a college education. It’s part of their Jesuit mission, to be both Catholic and catholic: a community that welcomes and honours all who come to them—whether as students, faculty members, or members of their staff. Fordham University has over 2500 international students from nearly every part of the globe on their New York City campuses. They welcome the unique perspective these students bring to the Fordham community. Fordham strives for excellence in research and teaching, and guarantees the freedom of inquiry required by rigorous thinking and the quest for truth. Fordham affirms the value of a core curriculum rooted in the liberal arts and sciences. The University seeks to foster in all its students life-long habits of careful observation, critical thinking, creativity, moral reflection and articulate expression. In order to prepare citizens for an increasingly multicultural and multinational society, Fordham seeks to develop in its students an understanding of and reverence for cultures and ways of life other than their own. And they come by their ambitious nature honestly. They are a community of what they Jesuits call the magis, the more, the greater glory of God, the greater and ever more restless and wondering exploration of what it means to be a human being, and of greater service to the human family.

Fordham affirms the complementary roles of faith and reason in the pursuit of wisdom and learning. The University encourages the growth of a life of faith consonant with moral and intellectual development. Fordham encourages faculty to discuss and promote an understanding of the ethical dimension of what is being studied and what is being taught. Fordham gives special attention to the study of the living tradition of Catholicism, and it provides a place where religious traditions may interact with each other and with contemporary cultures. Fordham welcomes students, faculty and staff of all religious traditions and of no religious tradition as valued members of this community of study and dialogue. The 8-acre Manhattan campus spans two city blocks, with a landscaped plaza where you can find a respite from the City without actually leaving it. It’s home to over 7,000 undergraduate and graduate students as well as Fordham College at Lincoln Center, the Gabelli School of Business, their Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Graduate School of Education, Graduate School of Social Service, and School of Law. Their 85-acre Bronx campus features Gothic architecture and tree-lined walkways. It's home to over 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students as well as Fordham College at Rose Hill, the Gabelli School of Business, their Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and Graduate School of Religion and Religious Studies. Home to the Westchester branches of the Fordham School of Professional and Continuing Studies, Gabelli School of Business, Graduate School of Education, and the Graduate School of Social Service, they are also home to four institutes: the Beck Institute on Poverty and Religion, Children FIRST, National Center for Social Work Trauma Education, and the Ravazzin Center on Aging.
