About Laurentian University

Maclean’s places universities into one of three categories to recognize the differences in levels of research funding, the diversity of offerings, and the range of graduate and professional programs - Laurentian falls into the Primarily Undergraduate field. Within this, universities are evaluated on students and classes, faculty, resources, student support, library and reputation. Maclean's considers 14 numerical indicators of the quality of students, faculty, libraries and finances to rank 49 universities. Each is placed in one of three categories to recognize differences in levels of research funding, offerings, and the range of graduate programs. Their university offers a wide-range of direct-entry programs to international students, as well as a wide range of services to assist you in your transition to Canada.

Fueled by its bilingual and tricultural mandate, Laurentian University upholds a strong Francophone focus. Thanks to the many programs it offers entirely in French, internal directives and procedures, not to mention multiple partnerships promoting the Francophonie, Laurentian contributes to the development and outreach of the French language in Ontario, Canada and on the global stage. Laurentian University is committed to fostering a strong culture of sustainability. In 2009, their President and Vice-Cancellor signed the Council of Ontario Universities pledge, Ontario Universities: Committed to a Greener World. By signing this pledge Laurentian University accepted responsibility to: to assist in finding solutions to the challenges of environmental sustainability, to share knowledge about sustainability and climate change, and to incorporate, wherever possible, principles of sustainability into their own operations. Sustainable initiatives at Laurentian University are driven and achieved by faculty, student and staff engagement and collaboration. Their mission is to promote environmental stewardship for the campus community in the hopes of continuously building a sustainable future to learn, work, live and play.

With the university nestled among five freshwater lakes on 765-acres of land and right in the heart of the city, it stands to reason that pristine nature can be gleaned from every viewable perspective. On campus, Laurentian’s student amenities are conveniently located a short walk away from one another, yet still only minutes from downtown and equipped with its own private beach.
