Overview

One of the largest universities in the UK, Manchester Metropolitan University is a historic and internationally recognised institution that dates back to 1824. Today, the city centre campus has over 34,000 students from more than 130 different countries.

Manchester Metropolitan is known for its quality of teaching, and its outstanding research, 85 per cent of which is rated as world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2014-2021).

It is ranked 3rd in the UK for its architecture courses and 11th in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2021.

The university has a GBP 400 million ongoing investment to develop facilities, buildings and public spaces. The institution also offers a range of scholarships for international students, plus prestigious Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor scholarships for specific courses (T&Cs apply).

Manchester Metropolitan students are also able to benefit from extensive employment support, such as careers advice for international students, CV checks, interview preparation and lifelong access to a digital careers service. The university also has industry links with global companies allowing students on specific courses to attend year-long placements with prestigious employers. 93 per cent of Manchester Metropolitan students go into employment or further study within six months of graduation thanks to this support (16/17 DHLE).

What's new

New School of Digital Arts launching in 2021

The School of Digital Arts (SODA) is a GBP35 million investment to develop the next generation of creative talent and support the demand for skilled workers in the creative, digital and tech sectors.

SODA will accommodate over 1,000 students annually with subjects that cover film, animation, photography, UX design, games design, AI, immersive technologies, and more, with students regularly collaborating with industry partners on live projects. The new building has a digital innovation lab, green screens, editing suites, screening space, a media gallery, and production, sound and music studios.

Business School

The Manchester Metropolitan University Business School is triple-accredited. This achievement places us amongst the very best business schools in the world. These accreditations are a testament to our high standards of excellence in teaching and research. Courses are designed in line with industry needs, ensuring students graduate with the skills to succeed and that employers are looking for.

Manchester Metropolitan ranked in the top 60 UK universities

Manchester Metropolitan is ranked 54th in the Complete University Guide 2021 table. The result places Manchester Metropolitan 4th among the North West region's universities.

Manchester Metropolitan University Institute of Sport

Opening in January 2022, the Institute of Sport will be a centre for research, teaching and learning, bringing together world-leading researchers. It will include a state-of-the-art lab with an imaging suite, an altitude heat chamber, a muscle function lab, and MRI and bone density analysis capabilities. Researchers will work alongside the specialists at the Platt Lane Sports Complex in South Manchester.

New Science and Engineering building

The new building will provide new and improved study areas and catering facilities, as well as enhanced teaching spaces for the Faculty of Science and Engineering. It is due for completion in 2024.

Manchester Met academics develop research that directly influences degree programmes whilst helping solve major issues at local, national and international levels. Study options

Study options

Manchester Metropolitan offers a wide-range of foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research courses. All programmes are enriched by the university's extensive research activities and many have been developed with businesses and industry professionals.

Other study options

There are several routes open to students who don't have the entry requirements for direct entry onto undergraduate or postgraduate programmes. Foundation courses provide students with the level of knowledge needed to secure a place at Manchester Metropolitan University. Students can also opt to take preparation courses that lead to the second year of undergraduate courses and to postgraduate programmes.

Pre-sessional English courses and free English language support is available for international students who do not meet the English language requirements of their degree course. The intensive programmes prepare students for study in the UK and are available at various start dates throughout the year.

The university has collaborative teaching partnerships where Manchester Metropolitan University degrees are delivered with local partners and it has student exchange agreements with over 150 partners worldwide and international research collaborations.

How to apply

How to apply

Undergraduate application (foundation year and undergraduate study)

UCAS is the online application system that students must use to apply for undergraduate study. Manchester Metropolitan University's institution code is ‘M40'. Students should ensure that this code is entered clearly on their application form, together with the code for the course they wish to apply for. Students should follow the below steps:

  • Apply - Complete the application form
  • Meet the offer conditions
  • Pay the deposit amount that will be confirmed with the offer letter from the university and will be deducted from the student's total tuition fees.
  • Request a CAS
  • Apply for a visa

Postgraduate application

Students can apply online for most postgraduate taught courses. Standard supporting documents include:

  • Apply – provide copies of academic transcripts and graduation certificates
  • Accept the offer
  • Meet the offer conditions
  • Pay the deposit
  • Request a CAS
  • Apply for a VISA

Some courses will have additional application requirements. There is no deadline for applications to postgraduate programmes, however, students are advised to apply as early as possible to allow for the processing of an application and visa.

Students should be sure to check the country-specific information and requirements. The university's in-country advisers and partners also have a lot of experience guiding students through their application to Manchester Metropolitan.
