Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Depending on the student's country and what level they are looking to study, there are different entry requirements.

Applicants to NMIT's graduate diploma or postgraduate diploma programmes typically need to have an undergraduate degree, which can be in any discipline. However, a good breadth of high-level management experience over a number of years may allow special entry to NMIT's graduate and postgraduate business programmes.

In addition, if students are non-native speakers of English and have not studied at degree level in an English-speaking country, they will be required to meet English language requirements.

If student qualifications are different to those from New Zealand, students must check for the equivalent requirements for their country. Students must visit NMIT's individual programme pages for checking entry requirements as well.

Students who are unable to meet entry requirements can take up NMIT's tertiary preparation programme and NZCEL English pathway. Through these, NMIT will work with students to help them develop a learning plan tailored to their study goals.

A world-class education in beautiful New Zealand...

NMIT students can choose to study in its Nelson or Marlborough campus, based in New Zealand.

New Zealand is an English-speaking democracy in the south Pacific region, approximately 1,600 kilometres south-east of Australia. It consists of two main islands - the North Island and the South Island as well as several smaller islands. It is similar in geographical size to Japan.

With a population of just over 4 million, New Zealanders (or ''Kiwis'' as they are sometimes known) are renowned for their friendliness.

New Zealand is ranked the world's fourth most peaceful country (Global Peace Index). Its economy is stable and many things are reasonably affordable.

It has a high standard of living and the quality of education in New Zealand ranks highly by world standards. The Economist magazine's Intelligence Unit ranked New Zealand the number one English speaking country in the world for preparing students for the future.

Students may be eligible to work whilst they study.

NMIT campuses offer programmes designed to complement the business and industry demands of the area.

Nelson campus

NMIT's main campus is located in Nelson's vibrant city centre. The Nelson campus location means quick and easy access to the cafes, bars and shopping in Nelson city.

Students are never far from anywhere - whether it's quality urban time they're after, or a break in one of the many city parks and public spaces nearby. Getting around is a breeze, especially on a bike, though the city is easily walkable.

The Nelson campus is based on a single city block and is an open and easy to navigate environment.

Marlborough campus

Nestled among mountain ranges, fertile plains, intricate waterways and thriving aviation, aquaculture and viticulture industries, the Marlborough campus delivers real world learning at its finest.

About 20 minutes' walk from Blenheim city centre, the attractive Marlborough campus offers viticulture, aviation and other programmes that support local industry. While the Marlborough campus is the smaller of NMIT's main campuses, students will benefit from its on-site vineyard, a world-class wine research centre, library and cafe.

For students who have taken up study options in aviation, most of their time will be spent at the RNZAF Woodbourne air force base in Blenheim. NMIT aircraft maintenance and engineering programmes are practical and hands on, helping students feel part of their chosen industry from the get-go.
