New Ranking Gives High Marks to UMass Lowell—Postgraduate programmes are among best in the nation.
Several of UMass Lowell’s postgraduate programmes were recently ranked among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. UMass Lowell’s Francis College of Engineering was ranked No. 3 overall for postgraduate programmes offered by public universities in New England and several specific programs were also selected. The nuclear engineering degree was named No. 19 in the nation and three others made the top 100 in the U.S. in the categories of materials (No. 77), mechanical (98) and computer (99) engineering, and electrical engineering was No. 138. NASA's Valkyrie Robot Will Blaze the Trail to Mars & Beyond
UMass Lowell students and researchers are programming one of only four robots in the world that NASA hopes will allow us to one day live on Mars. NASA originally designed the USD2 million robot (called Valkyrie) as a disaster-relief robot, but is now looking for outside expertise to turn it into a "space mechanic" in the hopes that the 6-foot-tall, 300-pound humanoid will help build a space station on Mars that humans can inhabit. Manning School’s New ‘Dream’ Home Open for Business
UMass Lowell recently completed work on the Pulichino Tong Business Centre, the new home of the Manning School of Business. The building includes 10 classrooms, collaborative spaces and a state-of-the-art trading room.
