Founded in 1849 as a small teacher's college, EMU is a major learning and research institution with a distinct mix of comprehensive academic resources and strong community initiatives. It offers more than 200 undergraduate majors, minors and certificates, plus more than 150 graduate programs to its 21,105 students.
Eastern Michigan University encourages the development and operation of organized research units as Centers and Institutes where it has the capacity and provides a unique contribution or service. Centers and Institutes complement the educational mission of the University and focus on demonstrated needs through interdisciplinary and problem focused research.
Campus Life offers student-centered learning, development and involvement activities that challenge and support the unique gifts, needs, experiences and interests of students, professional staff members and members of the broader campus community. Going to college is all about exploring one’s own interests, and no matter what students are interested in, they are likely to find a student organization here at the university - full of people who share their passion. Student organizations help one to learn about particular fields of interest, develop new skills, network with faculty and staff and make friends and have fun.
