The Grier School was founded in 1853 by the local Presbyterian Church. The school recognizes the importance of a diverse student body and seeks to enroll students from around the world who will become emboldened, engaged, and poised for the future during their time at Grier. Each year, students from more than 15 countries who make up half of the student body enroll in the school.
Grier School, a girls’ college-preparatory day and boarding school for students in grades 7-12, offers an individualized education in academics, dance, riding, music, the visual arts, theatre, and a great variety of recreational and team sports. The School is committed to the philosophy that each of its students should have the opportunity to achieve her individual potential. Its goal is to provide a warm, residential, home-like atmosphere where students from many nations and academic backgrounds gain knowledge, creative expression, responsibility, self-esteem, and leadership skills.
The Grier School is located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. The school’s motto is “Sana Mens in Corpore Sana”, meaning Sound Mind in a Sound Body. Grier offers a very competitive college preparatory academic program.
