What's new

Fall 2021 Plans

As of Fall 2021, Maryville University will resume its traditional offerings. These will include:

  • A return to the traditional academic calendar
  • A return to in-person classes, in addition to continuing the hybrid and virtual offerings in place
  • Returning to in-person campus activities and athletics events
  • Returning to normal residence halls and catering policies

Maryville's plan is governed by local health officials' regulations and is subject to change.

Now Offering Computer Science

Beginning Fall 2021, Maryville University offers a bachelor's in Computer Science. This additional program will help students gain skills in emerging technologies like data science, artificial intelligence, software development, cybersecurity, blockchain, robotics, and user experience.

Maryville to Add NCAA Sports

Maryville University will add men's volleyball and women's field hockey to its NCAA sport offerings. This brings Maryville's total number of NCAA sports to 25. Men's volleyball will begin competing in Spring 2022 and women's field hockey in Fall 2022. Students can learn more about Maryville University Athletics on the Maryville Saints page.

Apple Recognition

Maryville University has been recognized for its high-tech learning environment for the second time by being named an Apple Distinguished School for 2018-2021.

The accolade praises the university for its leadership and excellence in offering a high-tech and mobile learning environment, with the Digital World program offering a particular focus on digital skills and personalized learning.

Apple Distinguished Schools look to use technology in learning to encourage academic accomplishment and inspire creativity with critical thinking.

Teaching quality

Teaching quality

As a university placing a great focus on teaching quality, Maryville has a dedicated center for teaching and learning to allow continuous development of faculty. The Finch Center for Teaching and Learning allows teachers to learn more about utilizing technology and enhancing student engagement, creating a positive impact on the student learning and quality of teaching at Maryville.

Programs for improving teaching quality include:

  • Teaching triads: Combines new and experienced faculty in teaching triads to try and generate learning through reflective practices and sharing knowledge of working with Maryville students.
  • Real Week: A 5-day professional development convention discussing various topics related to teaching such as diversity, engagement and the use of technology.
  • Teaching and Learning Colleagues (TLC): Mentors who offer support and resources to other faculty members to develop best possible learning environment for students.
  • SoTL group: Seminar to which Maryville faculty are invited every year to examine and study their own teaching via an interdisciplinary group of faculty.

Faculty are also encouraged to build their own community and opportunities via online discussions, sharing sessions and task forces. Maryville offers a supportive environment for teachers with course management and offers a learning management and online teaching system. The Finch Center ensures inclusivity amongst teaching and offers the resources necessary to maintain the high teaching standards students enjoy at Maryville.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Maryville University requires a minimum 2.5 GPA for undergraduate admission and is a test-optional institution. Program-specific requirements may apply.

The following tests are acceptable as proof of English language proficiency:

  • TOEFL - 69 (internet-based) or higher depending on program of study
  • IELTS - 6.0 or above on overall band score depending on program of study
  • Duolingo English Test (DET) - 95 or higher depending on program of study
  • ESL Language Center - ELS level 112 with a 2.5 grade or better depending on program of study
  • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - 47 or higher depending on program of study
  • SAT - 480 or higher on Evidence-based Reading and Writing section
  • ACT - 21 or higher on Writing/English section
  • Full admission if applicant has completed at least 24 credits of 100-level or above coursework with at least a 2.0 GPA and completed English Composition 101 and 102 equivalent with a ''C'' grade or better. A ''C'' or better in English composition for Non-Native speakers does not waive the English proficiency requirement.

Scholarships and funding

Scholarships and funding

Several scholarships are available for incoming freshman students, sponsored by professional groups, fraternal organizations or companies. All students who meet the stated requirements for automatic scholarships will be awarded them appropriately. GPA is cumulative and based on a 4.0 scale. Maryville does not use the writing section of the ACT and SAT when considering scholarships.

Scholarships include:

Automatic scholarships:

  • Saints Scholarship – USD 14,000 annually for applicants with GPA of 3.5 or above OR ACT/SAT score of 27/1290 or above.
  • Big Red Scholarship – USD 11,000 annually for applicants with GPA of 3.0 or above OR ACT/SAT score of 24/1180 or above.
  • Maryville Opportunity Award – USD 9,000 annually for applicants with GPA of 2.5 or above OR ACT/SAT score of 22/1110 or above.

A few of the competitive scholarships (not guaranteed) available include the following:

  • Presidential Scholarship – full tuition, room and board for applicants with GPA of 3.75 or above OR ACT/SAT score of 27/1290 or above.
  • Trustee Scholarship – full tuition for applicants with GPA of 3.75 or above OR ACT/SAT score of 27/1290 or above.
  • Multicultural Scholarship – up to 75 per cent of tuition for students who demonstrate solid high school academic preparation, exceptional leadership qualities, and a commitment to actively contribute toward building an inclusive campus culture at Maryville.

Maryville campuses include multiple dining and athletics facilities, offering a range of cuisines to create a vibrant and multicultural environment with plenty of opportunity for social activity.

The university also provides a state-of-the-art library where students and faculty share research ideas and study. It includes individual workspaces and small meeting rooms to accommodate a range of needs, as well as a 4,040-square-foot casual venue for campus events and student meet-ups. The John E. and Adaline Simon Athletic Center headlines the athletics facilities, which also include fitness centers, soccer and baseball fields.


To accommodate students, the university provides three halls of residence and an apartment block.

  • Mouton Hall: Home to more than 147 students. Each floor features a large lounge. It also provides laundry facilities for residents.
  • Potter Hall: Home to more than 248 students. Flexible room options include doubles, triples and a few single rooms. Facilities include a spacious lobby with two study areas, beverage station and fitness room.
  • Saints Hall: Newest hall of residence at the university, featuring fitness center, open lobby, lounge spaces and modern floor plan. Designed with a conscious thought of learning experience, with Apple TVs and study lounges throughout the building plus a high-tech first floor classroom.
  • Hilltop Apartments: Located on the far north end of campus and housing more than 250 students, each building has 15 units and accommodates 50 students.
