Long Island University Brooklyn is the urban center of Long Island University, which is one of the nation’s largest private universities. It has an enrolment of more than 7,500 day, evening, doctorate, graduate, undergraduate and professional students. The university has a faculty of more than 250 deans, professors, and associates teach in 25 departments, making the faculty-student ratio ideal. LIU Brooklyn consists of the Richard L. LIU Brooklyn is also home to Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts, a dynamic performance venue designed to nourish students’ artistic exploration while providing the community with greater access to an exciting range of professional performances.
Special emphasis is given to academic and career counselling and other guidance services geared to meet the individual needs of each student. In addition, all students are encouraged to engage in any of the various social and academic campus organizations, all of which are designed by both students and faculty advisors to suit the diverse tastes of the Brooklyn Campus student population. It continues to enable students to realize their full potential as ethically grounded, intellectually vigorous and socially responsible global citizens. With more than 60 active student clubs, organizations, and athletic teams, including arts, culture, the environment, student government, health care, the media, sports, and recreation, the university promotes student involvement and offers both personal and academic support for student growth.
Located in the heart of downtown Brooklyn, the city’s fastest growing economic and cultural neighborhood, LIU Brooklyn has been a cornerstone of progressive education for nearly 90 years. Its Steinberg Wellness Center provides activities that promote good health and encourage wellness behaviours, and consists of a 2,500-seat arena that hosts home games for NCAA Division I teams as well as intramural sports and activities, an NCAA-regulation swimming pool, a rooftop running track and tennis courts, an aerobics studio, a cardio-strength training area that houses both cardiovascular and resistance equipment, and training opportunities for LIU Brooklyn’s more than 3,000 students in health-related majors.
