Mount Allison traces its roots to 1839 when Sackville merchant Charles Frederick Allison proposed the creation of a school of elementary and higher learning. The Mount Allison Academy, a school for boys, opened in 1843, followed by the Ladies College in 1854. The university prides itself on providing students with a high quality academic experience. Mount Allison offers more than 40 different programs to choose from to create one’s own unique degree.
The university is committed to educating the whole student by providing a wide range of sport, fitness, and recreational opportunities that promote healthy, active lifestyles and the development of leadership, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
Getting involved in (or starting own) club or society will help students gain important job-related skills like leadership, fund raising, and people management. There are over 150 student-run organizations and students will learn about them in first week on campus. The Clubs and Societies Fair lets students explore what's available, sign up on the spot, or even take the first steps to starting their own club or society.
Mount Allison may be located in a small town, but students will quickly realize their biggest challenge is not finding something to do — it is trying to decide which of the many events and happenings around them to have time for. Sackville was named a Cultural Capital of Canada — its vibrant arts and culture scene includes exhibitions, theatrical performances, recitals, concerts, film, festivals, and more. Whether students love music, art, film, books, or theatre, they will find it here.
Mount Allison University is located on Canada's East Coast in picturesque Sackville, New Brunswick. A five-minute walk will take students from campus into downtown. Sackville's scenic landscapes are a big part of its charm offering plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities — no matter the season.
