Graduate Visa for Students in the UK

Overview

The Graduate Visa allows international students who have completed their studies in the UK to stay for an additional 2 years (3 years for PhD graduates) to work or look for a job.

Eligibility

  • You must be in the UK when applying for the visa.

  • You must hold a valid Student Visa or Tier 4 (General) Student Visa.

  • You must have completed a recognized course in the UK.

  • Your education provider must confirm to the Home Office that you have successfully completed your course.

Duration

  • The Graduate Visa lasts for 2 years (3 years for PhD graduates).

  • You can apply for the visa after completing your course.

How to Apply

  • Apply online for the Graduate Visa.

  • You must apply before your Student Visa expires.

Cost

  • Application Fee: £822

  • Healthcare Surcharge: £1,035 per year

What You Can Do

  • Work in most jobs.

  • Look for work or be self-employed.

  • Live with your partner and children (if eligible).

  • Do voluntary work.

  • Travel in and out of the UK.

Restrictions

  • Cannot apply for most public benefits or State Pension.

  • Cannot work as a professional athlete.

  • If you need to extend your stay, you may need to apply for a different visa.
