The group of Eight operated as an informal network of vice-chancellors from 1994 to 1999. It was formally incorporated in September 1999.
From 2000 to 2007, the Go8's Executive Director was Ms Virginia Walsh and the secretariat was located in Manuka, Canberra.
In 2007, Mr Michael Gallagher became the second Go8 Executive Director. The secretariat moved to its current premises in Turner, Canberra, in December 2007.

1. Monash University

3. The University of Melbourne
Established in the 1853. University of Melbourne was ranked at No. 1 and 2, alternating with the Australian National University several times in the Academic Ranking of World Universities and reputation. With the well-being of the university has the scent of romance and has been known as the European modeled Australia.
4. The University of New South Wales
Founded in the 1949 as a new university in the name of the highest ranking among the top universities in Australia, especially the Department of Petroleum Engineering. Which is known as one of the University of Southeast Asia. Both in terms of academic excellence and teaching advanced techniques on current events.
5. The University of Western Australia
Established in the 1911 was an Australian university with a quality education at undergraduate UWA students with more than 12,000 people and has international students more than 4,500 people UWA located 5 kms away from the center of Perth and 20 kms.from International Airport.
6. University of Adelaide
Established in the 1874 in the city of South Australia, which is the capital city of Adelaide. Adelaide is Australia's leading universities and modern. This is the third-oldest university in Australia. Adelaide has 6 campuses include North Terrace Campus, Roseworthy Campus, The Waite Campus, The Barton Campus, National Wine Centre and another 1 Campus in Singapore.
7. University of Queensland
Established in the 1910 currently has over 38,000 students, the University was supported by the Australian government in research and development programs effectively. They have a wonderful teaching and modern to accommodate the needs of students thoroughly. All faculties are high quality with qualified with quality teaching and high standard. It also received many awards for excellence in various fields. Provides opportunities for students for teaching quality at University of Queensland.
8. The University of Sydney
Established in the 1850. University of Sydney is Australia's first university. University of Sydney also ranked in the TOP 100 in the world. And was ranked TOP 3 of Australian universities. There are 50,000 students studying in the university which including the nearly 10,000 international students from 147 different nationalities across the world).
