A Vibrant International Student Community
Being an international student at the University of Newcastle isn’t just about meeting the local Aussies - it’s also a great chance to experience a diverse range of cultures, and make friends from all over the world. From a total student population of over 35,000, around 7,500 students have come to us from over 100 countries outside Australia. You can meet people from every continent and walk of life – and we’ll help you do it.
Our UON International team are dedicated to your journey here at the University of Newcastle. From the moment you accept your offer, you’ll have access to a range of support services to make sure your experience with us is the very best it can be.
Our International Student Advisors care about the students they help, every day. Whether it’s making sure you have the right university documentation for your Visa, or helping you get to the university once your plane lands - they’re here to take the worry out of your experience, so you can focus on the good stuff. And they’ll continue to be there for you, right throughout your studies, as well as helping you prepare for your return home.
Once you’re here, it’s time to join our international student facebook group and start getting to know your fellow students. Then, come meet everyone in person at our famous International O-Week - it’s how we help you settle in before your classes start. We’ll teach you everything you need to know about the university and the local area, and give you the opportunity to join us for a program of fun-filled excursions to some of the area’s best tourist attractions and destinations -and lots of free Aussie BBQ’s!
Once classes have started, it’s important you find ways to take time out to relax and have fun with your fellow students. We run a series of international-focused programs for that purpose. You can also mingle with our local students – whether it’s for a friendly game of soccer in our weekly
GOALSS program, or the fun and informative iLEAD program.
Confucius Institute is an on-campus centre of Chinese culture. It offers language and culture classes; as well as hosting a number of events celebrating our friendship with China, including the annual Newcastle China Festival.
