Overview
The Lyle School of Engineering has around 2000 students, split roughly equally between graduate and undergraduate. Lyle is based on the SMU campus in the heart of Dallas, Texas, ranked 14th most beautiful campus in the U.S. by the Princeton Review. Students have everything they need on campus, whilst also being able to explore the thriving and exciting city of Dallas. Dallas is also home to many major corporations and is a centre of commerce and culture, and over 4,400 internships are made available annually at some of these organizations to students of SMU.
The Lyle School of Engineering boasts state-of-the-art laboratories, which make Lyle a world-class research centre. With some of the most advanced teaching spaces in the U.S., including research laboratories specialising in subjects such as photonics, robotics and biomedical instrumentation, students at Lyle gain hands on experience of problem solving. With a student to teacher ratio of 11:1, students have plenty of contact time with top researchers. The school also has one of the highest percentages of female engineering students at any school.
The school Southern Methodist University - Lyle School of Engineering offers a number of dual and joint degrees including the Engineering/MBA and Engineering Entrepreneurship, both in partnership with the Cox School of Business.
As well as the exceptional facilities Lyle has to offer, students have access to wider SMU campus facilities including on-site accommodation and sophisticated sports centers. Students can join a huge range of competitive and recreational clubs, or simply enjoy watching SMU basketball in the 7000-seat arena. SMU also hosts the Willis M. Tate Distinguished Lecture Series, which gives students the chance to see inspirational speakers including U.S. presidents, senators and foreign leaders.
