The Illawarra Grammar School
The Illawarra Grammar School (TIGS) was founded in 1959 through the concerted efforts, vision and energy of the late Bishop Gordon Begbie and a dedicated band of 'founding parents' who firmly believed in the need for a regional Anglican School to be based in the Illawarra. TIGS now has an enrolment of over 1000 students, Preparatory to Year 12, housed in a modern educational setting with a well-established and acknowledged reputation for delivering programs of excellence. The vision and philosophy of those families to fully develop young people spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically in order that they might enter society with strong Christian Foundations to lead and serve are still followed today. The School has come a long way in its short history thanks to the leadership of successive administrations and the dedicated support of its many families. International students are welcome at The Illawarra Grammar School. Every effort is made to ensure that their international students become a part of the School community. The institution takes great care in looking after their international students, ensuring that they are safe and secure, and helping them to adjust to the Australian way of life.
The Illawarra Grammar School is a non-selective school and welcomes enrolment enquiries and applications for both girls and boys from 3 years of age. A TIGS education is an empowering experience and they continue to be delighted by the achievements of their students as they utilise their learning, faith and values in their life after school. The School aims to equip their students to act with wisdom, compassion and justice. TIGS has an enrolment of over 1000 students, Pre-Preparatory to Year 12, housed in a modern education setting with a well-established and acknowledged reputation for delivering programs of excellence.
The school is situated on an impressive site facing both Mt Keira and Mt Kembla and strategically placed to take advantage of the many educational, cultural, sporting and transport facilities associated with the City of Wollongong and its relative nearness to Sydney.
