  • La Trobe’s reputation as a research-intensive university is evident through its membership in the Australian Innovative Research Network of universities that has received over $340 million in research grants, as well as its recent $500 million investment in new learning and research centres within the fields of molecular science, biotechnology, nanotechnology, health sciences and agricultural bioscience.
  • La Trobe ranks in the top 100 universities worldwide for arts and humanities in the 2014-15 THE World University Rankings, and 38th in the world for history, classics and archaeology in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2013. La Trobe offers an extensive archaeology program in areas such as Indigenous, African, Palaeolithic and Biomolecular Archaeology, undertakes international excavations and research, and features the state-of-the-art Australian Archaeomagnetism Laboratory.
  • The university’s highly regarded MBA program has been positioned alongside the world’s top 200 business schools, as well as ranking 14th in Asia, 4th in Australia and 2nd in Victoria by QS Global Rankings in 2014. Latrobe’s MBA program was the first in Australia to be recognised by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), a leading global accreditation body in the field of business and management.

La Trobe is Australia's best university for research in microbiology, and equal best in biochemistry and cell biology according to the 2012 Excellence in Research Australia Report (ERA). The university’s partnership with the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute, as well as the newly constructed $100 million LIMS Institute, highlights La Trobe’s research strengths in biomedical and molecular science.
