The Waikato Institute of Technology, also known as Wintec, is oneof New Zealand's leading Institute of Technology based in Hamilton. Approximately 20,000 students including international students from 52 countries study at Wintec each year, and the organisation employs around 840 staff. It has three main campuses in Hamilton itself: the main city site, Rotokauri (Formerly Avalon) in north Hamilton, and the Hamilton Gardens horticultural campus. Three additionally campuses are located in the greater Waikato region.

Wintec offers training in engineering, trades, science, technology, agriculture, sport, health and social services, education, business and manufacturing, tourism, hospitality, events, English language, media and the creative industries. The qualifications range from certificates and diplomas to degrees and post-graduate degrees.
Wintec works closely with employers, industry and community organisations in order to develop programmes that reflect real-world standards and produce work-ready graduates.

Wintec offers over 140 courses, including Certificates, Diplomas, Degrees and Postgraduate qualifications. Course offered by Wintec are: Health and Social Practice, Business, Sport science and Human performance, Science and Engineering, Creative Arts and Industries, Plants and Animal Care, Information Technology, Trades, Service Industry, Education, English.
Wintec has three main campuses, one with 24 hour computer and internet access and some of the best purpose-built training facilities in the country.
The city campus has a student radio station, an art gallery, a practicing nursing ward and science teaching laboratories.
The Rotokauri campus, 15 minutes north of the city has sport science laboratories, specialist kitchens and a training restaurant, a veterinary surgery, an animal house and fully equipped trades workshops.
The Hamilton Gardens campus is set on picturesque gardens, with a computer aided drafting lab, greenhouses and practice barns.
Wintec’s highly qualified tutors are industry experienced and actively involved in research, development and technology transfer.
The $13 million Gallagher Hub in G Block is the heart of the City Campus, houses 120 computers (PCs and Macs) and is available to all Wintec students. The Gallagher Hub is open to all students 24-hours a day, on any day that Wintec is open, by swiping a current student ID card.
As well as the computer facilities the Hub includes:
- A well-stocked library including seven group study rooms, reading room and the latest self-check technology
- Two stunning purpose-built, multi-use events centres, complete with acoustic roof
- A cafe, food kiosk and place to hang out
- Specific student support services, such as Te Kete Kōnae, Student Learning Services, Student Job Search, and the Globe (international student lounge)
- A parenting room
- A prayer room
- The Students' Association (SAWIT)
