Diablo Valley College is one of three publicly supported two-year community colleges in the Contra Costa Community College District. For over 60 years, Diablo Valley College has provided quality education to the community it serves. A million students later, enrolling at DVC is one of the best ways you can ensure acceptance at a four-year college. DVC is not only recognized as one of California's best community colleges, but it also leads the state in transfer to four-year institutions.
With over 22,000 students of all ages and a host of programs, DVC offers a dynamic educational environment and a lively atmosphere. The faculty is dedicated to meeting the educational needs of its community, in accordance with the purposes and regulations that appear in the Education Code of California. DVC offers over 45 majors and over 40 certificate programs. As the number one feeder institution, every year, the college transfers more domestic and international students to the University of California, Berkeley than any other college in California. We are the number 4 feeder institution to all public institutions in California.
Diablo Valley College also offers numerous Associate degrees and certificates and most of these can be completed within two years of study or less. Although an Associate degree is not necessary for transfer F-1 international students who complete an Associate degree can take part in Optional Practical Training (OPT) which is a work benefit for F-1 students who maintain their status. Many students may choose to compete an associates degree take part in OPT and then transfer to a four year college where they can take part in OPT again after completing a Bachelor's degree.
At DVC, Students can also enjoy the athletic teams, student clubs, on campus movies and volunteer opportunities. Diablo Valley College offers a student a supportive and engaging environment for studies and social interaction. The college drama produces a season of four plays each year, including at least one musical theater production, utilizing the Performing Arts Center and the intimate Arena Theater. Beside this, music department presents a series of evening concerts and free lunchtime concerts. DVC music groups include the Concert Chorale, Chamber Singers, Philharmonic Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Piano Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Vocal Jazz Ensembles, and the Night Jazz Band. The DVC Art Gallery hosts DVC students, regional and international artists throughout the year. The gallery is the Art and Art Digital Media department's learning laboratory focused on promoting the principles taught in the classroom.
The larger of DVC’s two campuses is located off Interstate 680 in Pleasant Hill, and the newer San Ramon Campus serves the south county in Dougherty Valley. Pleasant Hill campus is situated on one hundred acres of gently rolling hills in view of Mt. Diablo, a northern California landmark. Both of the college’s campuses have handsomely landscaped locations and are at a short distance from San Francisco, creating the ideal settings for the premier transfer institution in California. It is the choice for many students from the private and public high schools in the nearby Martinez, Mt. Diablo, San Ramon, and Acalanes School Districts.
