Florida State University
Florida State University, one of the largest and oldest of the 11 institutions of higher learning in the State University System of Florida, had its beginning as early as 1823 when the Territorial Legislature began to plan a higher education system. Florida State University is a comprehensive degree granting university, offering baccalaureate degrees in 88 programs, master's degrees in 102 programs, advanced master's/specialist degrees in 19 programs, doctorates in 67 programs and two professional degrees. The university offers fully accredited programs in both law (J.D.) and medicine (M.D.).One of the nation's elite research universities, Florida State University preserves, expands, and disseminates knowledge in the sciences, technology, arts, humanities, and professions, while embracing a philosophy of learning strongly rooted in the traditions of the liberal arts. Degree programs at branch campuses in Panama City, Sarasota and the Republic of Panama are also available. The Ringling Museum in Sarasota, affiliated with Florida State University, is the largest museum/university complex in the U.S. and houses one of the most significant collections of fine art in North America.
The average age for undergraduate students is 20.9. Students hailed from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. 81.9 of all students were Floridians, and 92.6% were from the United States. Foreign students from more than 130 countries are represented, comprising 5.6% of student enrollment, and 18 foreign countries each contributed 30 or more students.
