What’s new

What’s new

In partnership with UP Education, the university has launched CDU International College, which helps international students gain university entrance.

Through CDU International College, UP Education will offer a range of study options including first year diplomas and pre-master’s courses in March 2020.

Mark Rushworth, UP Education Chief Executive said, “We have extensive experience in the provision of pathway courses, educating more than 1000 pathway students from around the world each year across Australia and New Zealand. I firmly believe we can be a transformative partner, delivering international students who will be motivated by the university’s outstanding graduate employment performance and rising-star status in the delivery of tertiary education globally.”

The Provost of CDU, Professor Sue Carthew said, “This will be the first time that CDU has offered university pathway programmes to students and we look forward to all parties benefitting from the success of our partnership with UP Education.”

  • The university is 91st according to the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia-Pacific University Ranking 2019.

Innovative Research Universities

CDU belongs to the Innovative Research Universities (IRU) group, a network of universities dedicated to inclusive excellence in research and teaching in Australia. The members of IRU are Charles Darwin University, Flinders University, Griffith University, James Cook University, La Trobe University, Murdoch University, and Western Sydney University. IRU seeks to promote the partnership between member universities in a number of areas including teaching and learning, research, management and leadership training, and internationalisation.

Research excellence

82 per cent of CDU’s research is rated at world standard and above according to the ERA (Research Excellence Rankings Analysis) rating of 5 for the following areas: medical and health sciences (2-digit level), environmental science and management (4-digit level) and ecology (4-digit level). It has a 4 at the 2-digit level in: environmental sciences, biological sciences, agricultural and veterinary sciences.

Indigenous research

CDU is dedicated to promoting Indigenous knowledges and perspectives into all aspects of the university and in ethical research, providing expert analysis of research projects to develop sustainable livelihoods, and preservation of knowledge. Indigenous research at CDU is undertaken by the Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Education.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

The following are the English language requirements for both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels:

  • IELTS Academic Module

Undergraduate requirement - A minimum overall score of IELTS 6.0 with no band less than 6.0*.

Postgraduate requirement - An overall minimum score of IELTS 6.5 with no band lower than 6.0*.

  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic module

Undergraduate requirement - A minimum overall score of 50 with no score lower than 50*.

Postgraduate requirement - An overall minimum score of 58 with no band less than 50*.

  • TOEFL Internet based Test (iBT)

Undergraduate requirement - A minimum overall score of 60 and a minimum writing score of 21*.

Postgraduate requirement - An overall minimum score of 79 with a writing score of 21 as the minimum*.

*There are exceptions for some courses in all levels and for all tests mentioned above. Students must check the CDU website for the most current and up to date entry requirements for their course.

IHD, based on CDU’s main teaching campus in Casuarina, Darwin, is within tropical gardens and Australian bush. This thriving, relaxed, vibrant, and caring community is home to international students from nearly 40 countries, with long and short-term accommodation options available.   • Alice Springs

CDU students can choose from sole occupancy and twin share rooms across two houses and enjoy access to a self-service laundry, communal kitchen areas, and Wi-Fi access. Students can visit the CDU website for more on this.

Charles Darwin University, was created in 2003 to rationalise a fragmented array of tertiary education and research institutions in the NT, to extend the University?s reach to all parts of the Territory and participate as a partner in the Territory?s development across the social, cultural and economic spheres.

CDU is a dual sector university offering a full spectrum of education and training opportunities in Higher Education and Vocational Education and Training. It is one of six members of Australia?s Innovative Research Universities network, which involves members directing knowledge, capabilities and resources to enhance the outcomes of higher education.

The University delivers more than 75 nationally recognised and accredited programs to many international students from different nationalities. It has all the advantages of a relatively young multi-sector university, including vigour, creativity, flexibility and freedom from the constraints of tradition.

Charles Darwin University's campuses and education centres are nationwide. It?s Alice Springs campus is a major educational hub catering for students in the town and in Central Australia?s remote communities. The campus includes a modern 85-seat lecture theatre, specialist IT classrooms, a clinical training laboratory for nursing and a science laboratory for Higher Education.
