We continue to support key stakeholders across the HE sector on a number of collaborative projects in order to strengthen the UK’s international position and add further value for you, our clients, by representing your interests.
On the 23rd June, we attended the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards (THELMAs).
Once again IDP sponsored the Outstanding International Strategy category, highlighting institutions that have shown a real dedication to internationalisation through innovative recruitment strategies, focusing on student satisfaction and an understanding of the importance of international higher education.
The winner of this category was De Montfort University, with the judges being particularly impressed with their #DMUglobal initiative, which is aimed at increasing student mobility and recruitment through helping students to identify as ‘global graduates’.
Also in June we sponsored and attended the incredibly valuable Universities UK International (UUKi) conference in London, “Enhancing the International Student Experience”.
In July we sponsored and presented at the BUILA Annual Conference in Liverpool. Members of the IDP UK team delivered a session on the Middle East and India using our student buying behaviour research and discussing the latest trends in social media and online usage. You can access the slides here. It was a pleasure to see so many of you there. Without doubt we found it to be the best BUILA conference yet, well done to the Executive Committee.
IDP is now a member of Exporting Education UK (ExEdUK). ExEdUK provides secretarial support to the newly launched All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for International Students. The overarching purpose of the APPG is to promote the value of international students to UK education, economy and 'soft power'.
In August IDP staff had the pleasure of meeting with Paul Blomfield, MP, Co-Chair of the APPG, in order to share with him details of our student buying behaviour research, specifically in relation to perceptions of the UK for employability and post study work opportunities.
IDP was also recently invited to Downing Street to meet with Conrad Bird, Director of the GREAT Campaign, in order to explore how we can support the Education is GREAT strand by leveraging our global network and market intelligence resource.
We will be attending the EAIE Conference in Liverpool later this week and look forward to meeting with friends and colleagues. You can receive live updates from the conference by following us on Twitter and the conference hastag is #EAIE2016
There is still time to register for the Australian International Education Conference (AIEC), to be held on 18-21 October in Melbourne.
We are delighted to confirm that Charlene Allen, Director of Student Recruitment and International Relations at the University of Southampton, will be attending AIEC as our guest in her capacity as Chair of BUILA. As we have shared previously, also in attendance as our other guest from the UK will be Vivienne Stern, Director of UUKi. We also have representatives of AIRC attending. AIRC (American International Recruitment Council) was created by senior U.S. education leaders to safeguard the interests of both international students and enrolling institutions through the promotion of ethical, standards-based international recruitment strategies.

In August we were delighted to welcome Piyush Kumar (Country Director) Tarang Chowdhary (Manager, Client Relations & Training) and Amit Chaturvedi (Head, Client Development and Training) of the IDP India team to meet the IDP UK team, clients and key stakeholders across the country.
In addition to IDP operational developments within India, the team shared a number of observations, opportunities and updates in relation to the overall economic and demographic conditions for this market. The UK is a strategic priority destination for the Indian market, and one of the key takeaways was that IDP is investing in more dedicated UK staff resources for the country that will allow us to further support our clients there. You can view the presentation here.
We are very grateful to the clients that hosted our Indian colleagues for their time and hospitality. They left with an incredibly positive impression. Thank you all.
During their time in Cardiff, the team delivered a market update briefing to several of our Welsh clients. This was coordinated in partnership with British Council Wales and Universities Wales under the Welsh Government’s “Global Wales” initiative.
IDP is keen to do more to support other UK regional initiatives such as this. If you have any suggestions then please contact email@example.com
