For our first venture within the Community theme, we partnered with local hunger relief organization, Philabundance. A member of Feeding America, Philabundance services the Greater Philadelphia and Delaware Valley region. They have several direct neighborhood distribution programs and a network of nearly 350 member agencies, donating to 90,000 people per week, of which 30% are children and 15% are senior citizens.
The team was responsible for bringing in donations for Philabundance and, in addition to this, we had collections with organizations at our 1818 Market Street headquarters. The response both externally and internally was very positive, helping to ensure that our CSR strategy started on the right path.
Human Resources Manager Coryndi McFadden, who has overseen the implementation of our CSR, said:
“It was wonderful to see the whole team fully commit to this great cause. The creativity demonstrated was terrific – and although we are currently on the first of our three themes, we aim to endeavor into our other themes shortly with a host of new projects in the New Year with environmental and wellness work.”
The International Professionals Program at the Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians
IDP Education has had a rewarding experience partnering with the Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians.
Specifically, we have been volunteering primarily with the International Professionals Program. The program is a 12-week workshop in which all the participants are educated and talented professionals from all over the world who have migrated to Pennsylvania.
Several members of the IDP team have volunteered as panelist for a multitude of workshops, as well as giving presentations on topics like Personal Branding, and Online Networking. We have also built lasting relationships with several of the participants, such as Jenny Stanton. For more on her story, click the photo below to view the inforgraphic.
Working with the Welcoming Center has given us a great opportunity to meet and aid people in their career goals while IDP has also worked to accomplish our CSR initiatives.
Broad Street Ministry
In our most recent endeavor, we have teamed up with Broad Street Ministry (BSM), a "radical hospitality service" located here in Center City Philadelphia. It was an especially moving experience volunteering at BSM for our central Philadelphia office team.
Broad Street Ministry is an organization that practices radical hospitality and works for a more just world through civic engagement. The services that they offer to people in need are hot meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), clothing, personal care bags, mail service (providing people with a address to have things mailed there) and therapeutic arts.
Our team volunteered as servers for over 350 people that attended lunch on a hot summer day. When a guest arrives for any meal at BSM, they sit down and are served as if they were attending a restaurant instead of a soup kitchen. The ministry operates this way, so that patrons (many of whom face homelessness and poverty) feel welcomed and have a great experience while eating their meals.
We will be volunteering again during our year end meeting in July. for more info on volunteering or donating please go to http://www.broadstreethospitality.org/.
