World Challenge with Fitbit
As part of the health and well-being in strand, each member of IDP USA staff has been supplied with a FitBit Flex 2; a wireless device which helps you to track your activities, exercise, sleep, weight and more. The FitBit has a slim wristband, with standout features such as swim proof, interchangeable accessories, reminders to move, a smart track auto exercise recognition and a call and text notification, which have made it the perfect for tool in our efforts to have healthier habits. Each day, we recorded our daily steps to come up with a collective total to see how many miles we had walked as an office. In addition we committed to daily and weekly steps challenges.
The challenge was a great way of bringing the team together and helped each of us to think more about our personal approach to fitness. Additionally, we thought it would be fun and exciting if we added a twist to this daily challenge. Building off of the work that the UK team had done, we decided to "walk across" our IDP offices. In fact, we teamed up with our colleagues in the United Kingdom; their team started in Cardiff, Wales and ours, Los Angeles, California. We aim to meet in the middle of the globe soon. If you would like to track our practice or read a couple of our blog articles you can go to the World Challenge Blog.
The motive for the pedometer challenge was rooted in an 8-year study conducted on 4,000 people, which found that those who did just 15 minutes of moderate activity a day added approximately 3 years to their life. Not only does walking reduce your risk of illness and injury, it increases your fitness, health and well-being, and has the lowest dropout rate of any form of exercise. As we perform more challenges, we have experienced more and more health benefits. If you would like to read about our journey, you can do here. Watch out for more updates!
