Bishop’s University is a predominantly residential, undergraduate university. Their primary concern is offering students a quality education in the fine arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business and education. The residential aspect of their small size (2,400 full-time students) encourages students to immerse themselves in the complete Bishop’s experience. There are students enrolled from every Canadian province and territory, 22 states, and from 52 countries worldwide. Bishop’s University was founded as Bishop’s College in 1843, under the sponsorship of the Right Reverend G.J. Mountain, the Anglican Bishop of Quebec, with the assistance of a group of clergy and laymen from the Eastern Townships.
Located in the beautiful Eastern Townships region of the province of Quebec, Bishop’s is a unique English-language university that offers its students an undergraduate university experience like no other. Bishop’s boasts some of the smallest class sizes in the country, and passionate, supportive professors who truly care about the success of their students. The result is that all BU students receive personalized attention and valuable support throughout their studies. Bishop’s connects its students to an array of outstanding learning opportunities, including internships and exceptional training experiences. These opportunities enable students to strengthen their skills and obtain valuable professional experience, all while working to complete their studies. Bishop’s creates a unique social environment for its students, one that fosters personal growth and development. Bishop’s University boasts some of Canada’s best university professors. Their 115 full-time faculty members are involved in extensive research and publishing endeavours. However, they have chosen to work at Bishop’s because they love teaching and working with undergraduate students. They put great emphasis on personal contact between students and professors, and favour small classes and frequent seminars, laboratories and tutorials. The charisma and strength of Bishop’s University are shaped by their people. Their university’s leadership and administrative teams are committed to ensuring that Bishop’s continues on their path towards enriching and supporting their founding mission of offering the country at large a sound and liberal education. Moreover, these teams ensure that the Bishop’s community maintains its values in providing Canada’s best overall undergraduate experience. A university is more than bricks, buildings and mortar. More than anything else, it is defined by its people. And nowhere except Bishop’s are the people such a cornerstone of the community and the university’s successes.
