Florida International University
Since opening their doors in 1972, FIU has been on the move— constantly evolving, growing and changing to meet your needs. In 1965, Florida Senator Robert M. Haverfield introduced Senate Bill 711, which instructed the state Board of Education and the Board of Regents (BOR) to begin planning for the development of a state university in Miami. FIU has grown to be one of the largest universities in the country. The spirit of entrepreneurship born on that summer day thrives at today’s FIU. Florida International University will be a leading urban public research university focused on student learning, innovation, and collaboration. Florida International University is an urban, multi-campus, public research university serving its students and the diverse population of South Florida. They are committed to high-quality teaching, state-of-the-art research and creative activity, and collaborative engagement with their local and global communities. FIU has two major campuses: Modesto A. Maidique Campus in West Miami-Dade County, and Biscayne Bay Campus in North Miami Beach. FIU also has various other locations which include the Engineering Center, near MMC, the FIU at I-75 in Miramar, the business centre in Downtown Brickell, and the Miami Beach Urban Studios (MBUS) on South Beach. For students seeking to learn abroad, the Marriott Tianjin China Program teaches hospitality and tourism management from a centre in one of China's largest cities. In addition to their campuses, FIU operates vital research and cultural centres in South Florida such as the Aquarius under seas research program, The Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU and the Wolfsonian FIU art and history museum in Miami Beach.
