THE World ranking

Newcastle University's can trace its origins back to the School of Medicine and Surgery, established in 1834, and Armstrong College, founded in 1871. These two colleges formed one division of the federal University of Durham and were merged to form King's College in 1937. The Durham Colleges were the other division of the federal University. King?s College was renowned not only for providing an education in fundamental disciplines such as mathematics, science, arts and literature, but also for pioneering regionally important applied sciences such as geology, mining, naval architecture, engineering and agriculture. In 1963, the federal University was dissolved and King's College became the University of Newcastle upon Tyne as we know it today.

Newcastle University is home to teaching and research across a diverse and exciting range of subject areas. It has over 200 undergraduate and 300 postgraduate degrees to choose from. The university is proud to have achieved a Gold Award in the UK Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), a ringing endorsement of their long tradition of excellence in teaching.

Newcastle University has a range of award-winning facilities available for staff, students and partners alike. The award-winning libraries include the Philip Robinson Library, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week during term time, Marjorie Robinson Library Rooms, with over 580 study spaces, Walton Medical Library and Law Library. The Centre for Physical Recreation and Sport offers amazing opportunities for all abilities.
