The one-hundred-year history of the University of Alberta has been a century of vision, a vision borne out of the partnership of two ambitious men, Alexander Cameron Rutherford, the first Premier of Alberta, and Henry Marshall Tory, a McGill University professor who became the University of Alberta?s first president. Critics at the time dismissed their dream as impossible, or at best impractical, but the vision would become a reality. The passing of the University Act in 1906 by the new government of Alberta paved the way to the official opening of the University in 1908. The University of Alberta is a big, exciting place with large campuses, cutting-edge laboratories, and an interesting history.

UAlberta is a Top 5 Canadian university and one of the Top 150 in the world, home to more than 500 graduate programs, 200 undergraduate programs and 450 active student groups. The university is home to 18 faculties and dozens of research centres and institutes, across five campus locations. Many faculties and programs at UAlberta offer paid co-op programs or work experience placements - letting students obtain practical experience while they earn credit towards their degree. Participating in co-op work programs, work experience placements, or academic internships has been shown to make graduates more attractive to employers.

University is a time where students can reinvent themselves and discover new social circles, or it can be a time for them to hone in on their passion and discover a group of like-minded enthusiasts. With over 450 student clubs to choose from, it's likely that student will join more than one. They can join a cultural group or pursue a cause they believe in with their fellow students. Stop by the tents in Quad during Week of Welcome, or start searching in Bears Den now to find like-minded people. Swimming, weight lifting, running, climbing, ice hockey, soccer, volleyball, and basketball - if student can think of a sport, there's a good chance UAlberta has facilities or clubs to do it with.

Known as Main Campus. Occupying more than 50 city blocks, it?s a city within a city, located on the edge of a lush river valley. A classic academic setting steeped in over 100 years' of history but also home to some of the most advanced facilities in the world. Located one-hour south of Edmonton, Augustana is a liberal arts and sciences campus. Known for the close-knit campus community, students are able to immerse themselves in different experiential learning opportunities in the community, outdoors, and abroad.
