Since 1991, the University of Florida International Center (UFIC), through Exchange Visitor Services, International Student Services, Study Abroad Services, and the Office for Global Research Engagement, serves in a leadership and facilitation role to further the University’s international agenda, providing assistance and support to faculty, staff, administrators, and students as well as external stakeholders in their international activities. In addition to assisting these clients, the Center also functions to enhance the University’s ability to pursue and develop international activities and partnerships appropriate to its core mission-The International Center motivates and leads the UF community to think and act globally in fulfilling the university’s missions of learning, discovery, and engagement. The UF International Center (UFIC) was formed in the Fall of 1991. UF has a long and distinguished tradition in international education and research in addition to a wide range of resources including faculty, staff and students with international interests. The International Center serves as an internal and external liaison for the University, providing a source of assistance to faculty, administrators and students and enhancing their ability to pursue and develop international activities and initiatives.
With nearly 50,000 students, over 5,000 full-time faculty, and an additional staff of some 8,000 individuals, the University of Florida is one of the largest and most comprehensive universities in the United States. Although often stated, it is nevertheless true that they live in a global society and the University of Florida must be part of that mix. The principal role of the University of Florida International Center is to provide the essential leadership, support and visibility for assuring success for the international efforts of the university. Moreover, they serve as the “front door” of the university for international students, visitors from around the world, and visiting scholars. They are also an essential administrative resource for students interested in study abroad opportunities and for faculty/staff members who are forging international partnerships. With 5,000 international students from over 130 different countries, a campus with nearly 2,000 international scholars and faculty, and a home base for over 2,000 study abroad students in over 50 countries, the UF International Center is a proud promoter of international scholarship. One of the best ways to determine if UF is your first-choice school is to visit the campus. Information sessions and student-led tours are offered at their welcome center, located at 737 Reitz Union Drive, Gainesville, FL. While visiting the campus, you might also enjoy the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art and the Florida Museum of Natural History. Both venues are free. The University of Florida is proud to be a 100% tobacco-free campus. The use of cigarettes and other tobacco products is prohibited on campus, including parking lots and vehicles.
