Founded in 1897, Victoria University of Wellington is one of New Zealand’s oldest and most prestigious tertiary institutions with a proud tradition of academic excellence. It offers internationally recognised courses and degree programmes in hundreds of subject areas. The university has developed close ties with a wide range of businesses and government organisations, and several recent initiatives are aimed at improving the University’s engagement with industry. It is New Zealand’s globally ranked capital city university and consistently ranks among the world’s 18,000 universities. Victoria University of Wellington has over 21,000 students, including over 3,400 international students from more than 100 countries. Victoria is New Zealand’s top ranked university for research quality (2012 Performance-Based Research Fund) with than 1,416 publications resulting from its researchers’ work were published in 2016. Victoria has five stars overall in the QS Stars rating of excellence and five stars in each of the eight categories arts and culture, discipline ranking and accreditations, employability, facilities, inclusiveness, internationalisation, research and teaching. The university has over 2,100 full-time equivalent staff and over 1,000 of those are involved in teaching and research. Its award-winning student support services help international students settle into their new living and learning environment. Victoria University of Wellington has four campuses, spread out over Wellington city and its suburbs.
