Overview

INTO University of East Anglia (UEA) offers international students the chance to prepare for university level study at a prestigious UK institution.

Students can choose from a variety of inspiring pathway courses:

  • A level courses – through the INTO Newton A level Programme. The only A level programme on a university campus.
  • International Foundation – students develop their academic and English language skills with preparation for direct entry into first year undergraduate study.
  • International Year One – equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree, students develop their academic and English language skills and progress directly into the second year of an undergraduate course. Depending on the pathway, students may study academic modules alongside university students.
  • Graduate Diploma – students develop their academic, research and English language skills, progressing directly onto a postgraduate course.
  • English Language Courses – for academic use, including Academic English Pre-sessional English and Study Abroad with English.

Average tuition fees for undergraduate and postgraduate INTO UEA students for three-term pathways in 2021–2022 is GBP 17,995 to GBP 18,995. Accommodation costs in 2020–21 range from GBP 6,583 to GBP 10,510.

INTO students benefit from all UEA has to offer. It has placed within the top 200 universities in the world (Times Higher Education World University Rankings) every year since 2011 and is ranked within the top 25 in the UK (The Times and the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021).

In the INTO Annual Student Experience Survey 2021, UEA received 100 per cent student satisfaction with the university campus environment, 98 per cent satisfaction with student services and 96 per cent student satisfaction for feeling safe and secure.

The renowned institution is dedicated to helping students reach their academic and career goals, and international students join a welcoming community of over 3,500 students from over 100 countries.

Live and study in one of the UK's best green spaces

Students at the University of East Anglia will benefit from a location that has been recognised for five consecutive years as one of the best campuses in the world (Green Flag Award Scheme 2017-21), marking the quality of its green spaces. This international award highlights that the campus has some of the highest environmental standards, is well-maintained and has fantastic visitor facilities.

The University of East Anglia is ranked within the top 5 safest universities in England (Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2018).

The university's campus is spread across 360 acres and has almost 5,800 different species of animals and plants, of which 108 are rare or endangered.

Students, staff and members of the public can visit the campus and enjoy walking around its beautiful green spaces throughout the year, such as the tree walks, the Sainsbury Centre sculpture trail and impressive views over the UEA campus.

Teaching quality

Teaching quality

INTO UEA has a team of passionate teaching staff, many of whom have postgraduate qualifications, that are dedicated to the success of each international student. They are fully aware of the challenges of moving to a new country to study, and are on-hand to provide the support students need to have a positive educational experience.

Personal tutors

New international students are assigned a personal tutor who they will meet up with throughout the year. Personal tutors help international students settle into student life, guide them academically, are available to provide assistance and can help refer them to the appropriate support services they need.

Other academic support services include:

  • Drop-in clinics and extra academic support
  • Weekly academic help-desk sessions for help after lectures and seminars
  • Revision sessions

Language support

There are language advisors at the INTO Centre to help international students who need support with communicating in English.

Student support

To ensure that international students have an easy transition into student life in the UK and UEA, INTO UEA has a strong support system in place, with a friendly and professional team to help all new students settle in. Part of the INTO Centre, the Student Services team provides:

  • 24-hour emergency telephone service for support outside of office hours
  • Airport collection service
  • Orientation scheme
  • Residential assistants in all student accommodation
  • Social and Welfare Officers
  • Visa guidance workshops

INTO students can take advantage of the range of services available for all students at UEA, especially the dedicated support for international students. This includes:

  • Learning Enhancement Team – which can provide help with study skills, academic writing and English language

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

To be eligible for study at INTO UEA, students will need to meet a small number of entry requirements.

International Foundation

  • Academic requirements – students need to have studied at school for 12 years (or equivalent) and must have good grades.
  • English language requirements – depending on the start date and course, students need to achieve a minimum IELTS score of 4.5-6.5 (or equivalent).

International Year One

  • Academic requirements – depending on the course, students will need satisfactory completion of certain A levels, completion of an accepted foundation course or good grades in the first year of an overseas degree.
  • English language requirements – depending on the start date and course, students will need a minimum IELTS score of 4.5–6.5, or equivalent.

Graduate Diploma

  • Academic requirements – depending on the course, students will need to have completed their first degree, a diploma or equivalent.
  • English language requirements – depending on the course, students will need a minimum IELTS score of 5.0-6.0, or equivalent.

English Language Courses

  • Academic requirements – dependant on the specific course. Pre-sessional English students will usually need an offer of a place to study at INTO UEA.
  • English language requirements – depending on the start date and course length, students will need a minimum IELTS score of 3.0, or equivalent.

Facilities

Facilities

INTO Centre

A central hub for INTO students, the INTO Centre is where students can spend a lot of time learning, studying and socialising. It's close to UEA's Students' Union, library and other facilities.

The INTO Centre is packed full of learning facilities and resources where students can have a university-style experience. This includes a lecture theatre, seminar classrooms, modern science labs, computer suites and independent study spaces. And it's all supported by friendly and helpful staff.

Learning Resource Centre

Students can utilise the Learning Resource Centre where they can make use of academic books, journals and other materials, as well as access online facilities such as INTO UEA's virtual learning environment.

Courtyard Office

If students need help with any non-academic areas, they can speak to Social and Welfare Officers in the Courtyard Office. The team can offer help with booking travel tickets, making friends and other life issues.

INTO Cafe

There's a large cafe in the INTO Centre where students can buy a wide variety of hot and healthy options from European and British food, to Asian cuisines. The cafe caters for all dietary requirements and preferences, and meal plans are available.

Accommodation

International students can choose to live either in the INTO student residence, which is part of the INTO Centre, or with a carefully selected local host. On-campus accommodation is sociable and can be catered or self-catered.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

INTO UEA has a range of scholarships in place for international students. The following is what is available for the 2021–2022 academic year.

Regional Scholarship

High achieving INTO students who are pursuing an International Foundation, International Year One or International Graduate Diploma pathway may be eligible to receive a scholarship of up to GBP 3,000 towards their tuition fees.

For INTO UEA students continuing to a degree at UEA, there are also progression scholarships to reward their performance.

International Foundation Progression Scholarship

INTO students who have an unconditional offer to study at UEA after completing their International Foundation pathway may be eligible for an award of GBP 5,000 each year they are studying for their degree.

Students are encouraged to check the availability and eligibility requirements for each scholarship.
