Teaching quality

EIT lecturers and teachers are highly qualified, many have PhDs and are research active. It is often stated that academic teaching is underpinned by research. EIT has been rated as one of the top institutes of technology in New Zealand for research excellence by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) and has achieved world-class research rankings.

Lecturers work closely on research projects with businesses and organisations at national and international levels. These contacts enable lecturers to impart their knowledge to students from a more practical perspective, enabling the students to have several kinds of practical experience that will help them acquire the skills and knowledge to get ahead in their careers. Many EIT academic programmes have a work-based learning component. This could be an internship, work placement or an industry generated business project.

At EIT, students will receive the support they need to help facilitate their academic achievement. There are smaller classes which enables more personal attention, where discussion is encouraged, and students have ready access to their lecturers. EIT aims to ensure students are treated as individuals with one-on-one attention, as well as the opportunity to prepare for the work environment after their course of study is complete. Students will be supported by faculty who are highly accessible and can receive guidance and help with everything from planning their studies to applying to work after they graduate.
