About Florida A and M University

Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University was founded as the State Normal College for Students. Today, it is the premiere school among historically black colleges and universities. The University remains the only historically black university in the eleven member State University System of Florida. It is an 1890 land grant institution dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, resolution of complex issues and the empowerment of citizens and communities. The University provides a student centred environment consistent with its core values. It is home to a wide variety of institutes and centres where faculty and students conduct research to develop real world solutions to society’s challenges.

The University offers 54 bachelor's degrees, 29 master's degrees, three professional degrees, and 12 doctoral programs in a wide range of academic areas. The most popular undergraduate programs are business administration, biology, criminal justice, and allied health. Other majors are available in every field, from animal science to engineering and nursing. Additionally, the school offers several distinctive degree programs. These include such majors as jazz studies, cardiopulmonary sciences, journalism and health informatics and management. The faculty is committed to educating students at the undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and professional levels, preparing graduates to apply their knowledge, critical thinking skills and creativity in their service to society.

Tallahassee campus is the main campus of the University. In Addition, the University has several satellite campuses across Florida.
