Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is an innovative and dynamic institution with an international reputation. Ranked as one of the top three Young Universities in Australia (THE Young University Rankings, 2019), QUT has over 50,000 students, including 8,944 international students. These students are well served by an institution that offers hundreds of study options at various levels and across multiple fields, including education, engineering, creative industries, law and business. The university enhances its offering through close partnerships with government organisations and top universities across the globe.

Award-winning research

Seven QUT researchers were awarded close to AUD 2.92 million by the 2020 Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Early Career Researcher Award.

Their research projects cover areas such as digital technology, reduction of smart phone related road accidents, sustainable building designs, youth peace advocacy, and more.

John Monash Scholar

Jessie Hughes, a QUT alumnus, a design strategist and creative technologist, was recently named a 2020 John Monash Scholar.

She will be awarded AUD 140,000 over two years towards her Master of Design at Harvard University or Master of Media, Arts and Science at MIT Media Lab in Cambridge. Her studies will explore advanced approaches to technology and society.

Hughes said, ''I am applying to them both. Either way, MIT and Harvard are both based in Cambridge, MA so I will be moving there and hopefully commencing study in September 2020. My main focus is on the cross-intersection of design, technology, art and strategy for social innovation. I am aiming to lead the design of systems, media, and tools to improve the livelihood of Australians, and others, through creative innovation and emerging technology.''

Business School

QUT's business school is the first in Australia to receive triple international accreditation and prepares students for employment in Australia and overseas. It is ranked among the top 100 globally in business and economics by the THE World University Rankings 2019.

Creative Industries

QUT's Creative Industries Precinct, Australia's most advanced technical creative space, serves as an incubator for commercial development and experimentation in the field. QUT's Creative Industries is ranked first in Australia for communication and media studies (QS World University Rankings 2019). The university offers Australia's largest combination of creative disciplines and a wide array of industry partnerships.

Education

The university's educators have been ranked as world standard or above in the field of education research as per the Excellence in Research for Australia assessment. Study options are research informed and taught by award winning lecturers.

Health

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Academic entry requirements

Students should check the course information in order to determine the academic requirements they need to meet. This includes any and all additional requirements like interviews, auditions, or portfolios.

English proficiency requirements

Students must meet the English language requirements for their chosen course. Queensland University of Technology accepts results from a number of standardised tests. Students must check individual programme pages to view details. Students must take a proficiency test no longer than two years before they commence their courses.

The university accepts test results from:

  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)
  • Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE)
  • IELTS (Academic)
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic)
  • TOEFL iBT (internet-based)

If students do not meet the requisite English language test scores, or adequate academic requirements for their preferred courses, the university may offer them a course package, which incorporates students' preferred courses with either the English language or pathway programme. If students pass these courses, they can move straight into their full degree.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

The university offers international students many scholarships including:

International Merit scholarships

High-achieving international students may be eligible for a merit scholarship, provided they meet required academic conditions.

The recipients will receive:

  • a scholarship covering 25 percent of course fees for the first two semesters
  • an ongoing scholarship covering 25 percent of course fees per semester

These scholarships cover a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the Business, Creative Industries, Education Science and Engineering faculties. Students don't need to apply separately.

The university offers its students a number of facilities including:

Gardens Point campus

The Gardens Point campus is located in Brisbane's city centre, next to Parliament House, the Brisbane River, and the City Botanical Gardens. The Goodwill Bridge offers students easy access on bicycle or foot to the cultural capital of South Bank.

There are numerous eating options at the Gardens Point campus, comprising of a food court and cafes. The Brisbane city centre is also just a short walk away. The university's students will be able to enjoy several of the cultural venues on campus.

There are student accommodation providers within five minutes' walk. QUT's accommodation service can help students with advice and information on finding accommodation in the city of Brisbane.

Kelvin Grove campus

The main campus for creative industries, education, health and international college students, Kelvin Grove is located in the thriving Kelvin Grove Urban Village.

Students enjoy collaborative learning spaces, performance venues, shops and cafes, set amongst the vibrant urban village.

The village offers students shops, restaurants, residential units, a weekly market, parklands and fitness facilities, along with the performance spaces and dynamic art at the QUT's Creative Industries Precinct.

There are several options for food and drink at Kelvin Grove campus, comprising of franchises such as Sushi Mura and Boost Juice.

Fully furnished apartments are available for students to rent in the village, and both Iglu and Unilodge have on-campus student accommodation available. QUT's accommodation service can also help with information and advice on finding accommodation near campus.
