Queen’s University is a community, 175 years of tradition, academic excellence, research, and beautiful waterfront campus made of limestone buildings and modern facilities. But more than anything Queen’s is people. Queen’s is one of Canada’s oldest degree-granting institutions, and has influenced Canadian higher education since 1841 when it was established by Royal Charter of Queen Victoria. The university balances excellence in undergraduate studies with well-established and innovative graduate programs, all within a dynamic learning environment.
At Queen’s students can make their own degree as unique as they are. It offers a number of programs to meet students’ specific needs for career development and personal growth, including articulation agreements, cotutelle programs, and dual degree or double degree options. There are more than 125 graduate degree programs, including cross-faculty, interdisciplinary and collaborative programs and spanning all disciplines at Queen's. It is this range of scholarly options and breadth in research strength that has made Queen’s the destination of choice of more than 4,000 graduate students.
Queen’s is a full-spectrum, research-intensive university that conducts leading-edge research in a variety of areas, including: computational science and engineering, globalization studies, mental health, basic and clinical biomedical sciences, healthy environments and sustainable energy systems and social issues such as surveillance, poverty and bullying.
The campus has a fully integrated network of six libraries and is home to several outstanding museums and arts facilities, including the Agnes Etherington Art Centre and The Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts.
From art galleries to theatrical productions and live music venues, the arts play a leading role in life at Queen's and in Kingston. The variety of arts and entertainment options for students to get involved in or appreciate as a community member make the student experience at Queen's one of a kind.
At university, students participate in more than 20 different recreation clubs ranging from archery and climbing, to squash and tennis, along with multiple disciplines of dancing, martial arts, and gymnastics. It offers more than 30 fitness classes per week such as Yoga, Pilates, cardio, cycle dance, strength, and swimming.
Queen's is located in the city of Kingston, Ontario, Canada, half-way between Montreal and Toronto, two of Canada's largest cities. Kingston is situated on the shores of Lake Ontario, near the entrance to the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands, and the Rideau Canal. It is an integral part of the Kingston community, with the campus nestled in the core of the city, only a 10-minute walk to downtown.
