Selection criteria:
The basis of selection will be academic merit and the quality of an essay on why the applicant has chosen to major/specialise in Classical Studies and Ancient History. The following criteria may also inform selection: i) support for Māori students, and/or ii) support for Pacific students, and/or iii) if the applicant is the first in their family to attend university, and/or iv) if the applicant has a disability, and/or v) if the applicant has care responsibilities for whānau, and/or vi) if the applicant comes from a refugee background, and/or vii) if the applicant normally lives, or attended secondary school or kura, in a rural area.
The main purpose of the Scholarship is to encourage and support a student enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Arts conjoint degree, majoring in Classical Studies and Ancient History, who has shown a high level of academic achievement, particularly in the study of Ancient History.
One Scholarship will be awarded annually, for a period of up to one year, and will be of the value of up to NZ $5,000.
To be eligible for Scholarship consideration, an applicant must be i) enrolled full-time in a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or BA conjoint degree, ii) majoring/specialising in Classical Studies and Ancient History, and iii) enrolled in Stage III courses in Classical Studies and Ancient History in the year of the award. A grade point average (GPA) of at least 6.00 (5.50 for Māori applicants and Pacific applicants) is required for Scholarship consideration.
