What are the upcoming intakes in Australia?

Know all about the intakes available in Australia

Unlike a single intake in Sri Lankan universities, Australian colleges and universities offer two major intakes. With some institutions offering a third, lesser-known-about intake. In some universities, intakes may also be referred to as a semester or trimester. The two major intakes -- and a summer intake -- available in Australia are:

Semester

Intakes

Semester 1 / T1

Late February/early March to late May/early June

Semester 2 / T2

Late July/early August through to November

Semester 3 / T3

Late October / early November through to February

Which intake to opt for?

It can get a bit confusing to choose the intake that’s best for you. Consider factors like the availability of your preferred program, your academic records, entrance test scores, acceptance rates, job opportunities and your readiness to join the program whilst making a decision.

While most of the masters programs are available in February or July intakes, there are some professional programs like Health and Nursing which are available only in February intake. Again, some universities offer limited courses like Business and IT in the November or Summer intake.

Here’s an overview of the intakes available for different programs in universities and colleges:

Intake

Deadline

Semester 1 (February intake)

October-November

Semester 2 (July intake)

April-May

*Deadlines vary basis the institution and your program. Please speak with your IDP counsellor for more information.

Typically, Sri lankan students prefer the July intake. But the February intake, considered as primary intake in Australia, is equally good for certain programs.

What if you need to apply for an intake before the results

Australian universities allow conditional acceptance in cases where final results are awaited. Since the results at Sri Lankan schools and colleges are usually announced in  May-June, this provision may work well for you. This allows you to start with your visa application eliminating the need to wait and waste time.

The Australian admission process is very streamlined. All you need to do is know when to start your application and how and when to submit it in order to maximise your chances of acceptance. To help you with the same, we have created a recommended application timeline for you.
