Overview

Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) is an Institute of Technology/Polytechnic (ITP) and was established in 1974. EIT has the distinction of being considered as an exemplar for tertiary education providers in New Zealand, by both the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) and Ministry of Education NZ (MOE). EIT is a category one institution having achieved highly confident ratings for both self-assessment and educational performance in the institution's previous New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) External Evaluation and Review (EER).

EIT is a highly respected provider of applied vocational and professional education, with over 10,000 students in 2020.

EIT's portfolio of academic programmes have been developed in response to industry needs both nationally and globally. EIT is committed to delivering applied learning with a focus on preparing students for real jobs.

EIT has an academic programme portfolio of 186 programmes. The institution offers programmes at master's degree, postgraduate diploma, bachelor's degree, graduate diploma, diploma and certificate level.

The institute also has an exciting range of postgraduate programmes, many of which provide students with the option to study online from wherever they are or on campus when they are able to travel to New Zealand. Designed with an industry focus, EIT's cutting-edge programmes are taught by lecturers who are experts in their field.

In business, computing, health science and wine business, EIT offers a suite of programmes at Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and Master's Degree levels. Eastern Institute of Technology's academic programme development aligns closely with regional and global industry needs. EIT also develops programmes which give opportunities for students with different academic profiles to progress into the level of study they intend to pursue. EIT has introduced the following programmes which can be studied fully online in 2022 or on campus in New Zealand when the borders reopen:

Viticulture and wine science

EIT is a specialist provider of cutting-edge, industry-relevant viticulture and wine science programmes. Students are taught in state-of-the-art facilities at the EIT Napier campus in Hawke's Bay by faculty with a breadth of experience as chemists, microbiologists, consultant winemakers and academic researchers.

Health science

EIT's interdisciplinary master's and postgraduate level health science programmes provide the opportunity for qualified health professionals and health service managers to develop advanced practical knowledge and critical analysis skills.

Creative industries

Students who are creative at heart with an enquiring mind are able to choose from a range of exciting programmes, including the Master in Professional Creative Practice.

How to apply

How to apply

Students who wish to apply to study online at EIT must do the following:

Step 1 – Students must complete the online international application form. The institute will assess a student's application and let them know the outcome as soon as possible.

Step 2 – Once accepted, students will be sent an interim offer of place followed by further information about how to enrol, course selection and fees payable (which should not take longer than five days if the application is complete and there are no documents pending).

Students who wish to apply to study on campus in New Zealand must email EIT for more information.

Postgraduate programmes

Students must meet required entry requirements to gain admission. International students residing outside New Zealand can choose to study online and do not require a visa for online study.

To study on campus, students must meet New Zealand's immigration requirements for a student visa. Requirements for post-study work visa applications also apply.

EIT master's degree, postgraduate diploma, and postgraduate certificate programmes are approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).

Facilities and campus life

EIT has three campuses in Napier, Auckland and Gisborne. The main campus is in Napier, Hawke's Bay. Each campus is unique and has its own features, catering to all types of students.

EIT Hawke's Bay is one of New Zealand's most attractive campuses with 27 hectares of gardens and distinctive regional architecture, giving the feeling of space and providing a beautiful environment. The Napier based campus offers the widest range of programmes and enrols domestic and international students. Tairāwhiti, the campus in Gisborne, provides options for international students in nursing, business, IT, horticulture and cookery. Both Napier and Gisborne offer a relaxed small city lifestyle with temperate weather, easy access to beaches, mountains, lakes and rivers, along with New Zealand's oldest winery.

Auckland offers students a city experience as a graduate school enrolling only international students. The Auckland campus is located on Queen Street in a great central location with easy access to the big city life.

All campuses have specialised student-centric learning technology and spaces for teaching groups and learning individually. Campus life and student integration are facilitated by student learning and student support systems. These include academic mentors and career guidance services, international pastoral care and accommodation specialists, and Napier's Student Association, Younited.
