Collarts (Australian College of the Arts) is an independent higher education college in Melbourne, focused on preparing students for creative industries. With 30 years of experience in providing dynamic education, Collarts offers industry-based teaching in areas including fashion, comedy, music production, interior design, audio engineering and more.

Courses are taught by industry experts who have worked with some of the world's top music acts and have gained experience in producing and recording award-winning albums. Members of staff include Academy Award nominees and ARIA award winners, providing students with the expertise and skills they need to break into the creative industries.

Collarts has amazing facilities, including recording studios, post production studios, auditoriums, materials library, mac labs, pc labs and the latest surround sound technology, Dolby Atmos.

Students are also given the opportunity to gain work experience in entertainment and creative industries including music festivals, radio stations, fashion shows, conferences and many more.

The college operates on a trimester schedule, having the year split into three study periods known as trimesters. Owing to this structure, students can graduate from their bachelor's degree in two years of study. Students are also given support to improve their academic skills and wellbeing.

Voted one of the most livable cities in the world (The Economist Intelligence Unit's 2019 Global Livability Index), students can take advantage of Melbourne's reputation as a hub for creativity, diversity and culture. The school is spread across four campuses, ideally located in the vibrant artistic area of Fitzroy and Collingwood. What's new

We are happy to announce that now students have the great opportunity to choose the duration of study for their Diploma, Bachelors or Double degrees.

Starting in Feb 2021, Collarts is able to offer Accelerated learning, Standard Delivery for its Diplomas and Bachelors and a Mixed Delivery for its Double degrees only.

Diplomas can be 8 months or 12 months.

Bachelors can be 2 or 3 years.

Double degrees can be 3, 4, or 4.5 years.

Each duration has its advantages. Ask us about it!.

Entry requirements

  • Successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent.
  • IELTS 6.0 (no band less than 6.0) or equivalent PTE or TOEFL equivalent is also accepted.
  • Applicants of the Diploma of Entertainment Journalism need to have an IELTS band of 6.5 (no band less than 6.0) or equivalent.
  • Students must be of age 18 or above by course commencement date.
  • Audition/ interview/ portfolio depending on the course.

Application process

Collarts welcomes applications from around the world. If international students fulfil relevant entry requirements, they must complete the online application form. Collarts' staff members will then contact students for further processing of the application.

If the application is successful, students will be sent an interview, or audition/ portfolio request. If successful, a conditional letter of offer will be sent.

Tuition Fees

Fee per trimester at Collarts: AUD 11,664

  • Diploma: 2 Trimesters (AUD 23,328)
  • Diploma of Entertainment Journalism: 3 Trimesters (AUD$ 34,992)
  • Bachelor's Degree: 6 Trimesters (AUD 69,984)
  • Double Degree: 9 Trimesters (AUD 104,976)

Students learn across four inner-city campuses located in Fitzroy and Collingwood.

Wellington St campus

The brand new Wellington campus is home to state-of-the-art recording studios and performance equipment, as well as an auditorium, computer labs, classrooms, post- production facilities, rehearsal rooms, library and study areas.

Cromwell St campus

The Cromwell St campus is based in Melbourne and provides a learning environment that is inspiring with studio-style classroom spaces, an industry-standard computer lab and a library.

Brunswick St campus

The campus based in Fitzroy is positioned such that it is in the heart of the live music scene in Melbourne. It features rehearsal rooms, ultramodern music studios and offers students high quality instruments and recording equipment.

George St campus

Based in Fitzroy, this campus offers students excellent facilities and classroom spaces. Fitzroy's artistic community inspires students with its picturesque views.
