What's new

What's new

ERAU students benefit from career-driven programs and work at the forefront of the subjects they study, often gaining experience with projects that advance academic understanding within their field and driving innovation with immediate real-world applications.

Master's degree student Noemí Miguelez Gómez has been working to advance space communication systems as part of her research in the electrical and computer engineering program and in partnership with ERAU's industry associates.

Her work involves using 3D printed technology to build foldable antenna which deploy once a satellite is in orbit, and that offer a much greater surface area to reflect radio signals from Earth, improving the effective transmission of the device. Miguelez Gómez's future work will address communication technologies aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

Electrical Engineering student Sofia Mvokany grew up in Cameroon and, after setting her sights on a career in engineering, started classes at ERAU in 2018. She was awarded a research grant in 2019 by Project Connect, through the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the National Science Foundation.

Mvokany now works in the field of laser micromachining in the newly opened Embry-Riddle Wireless Devices and Electromagnetics (WiDE) Laboratory. The facility features a design room with cutting-edge software, advanced fabrication equipment and testing facilities, including an echo-free anechoic chamber, which absorbs sound and electromagnetic waves.
